Search for new resonances decaying via WZ to leptons in proton-proton collisions at √s=8TeV
(2015)Physics Letters BA search is performed in proton–proton collisions at s=8 TeV for exotic particles decaying via WZ to fully leptonic final states with electrons, muons, and neutrinos. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1. No significant excess is observed above the expected standard model background. Upper bounds at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross section of a W′ boson as predicted by an extended gauge ...Journal Article -
Search for disappearing tracks in proton-proton collisions at √s =8 TeV
(2015)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search is presented for long-lived charged particles that decay within the CMS detector and produce the signature of a disappearing track. Disappearing tracks are identified as those with little or no associated calorimeter energy deposits and with missing hits in the outer layers of the tracker. The search uses proton-proton collision data recorded at s√=8 TeV that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1. The results of ...Journal Article -
Performance of Photon Reconstruction and Identification with the CMS Detector in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s = 8 TeV
(2015)Journal of InstrumentationA description is provided of the performance of the CMS detector for photon reconstruction and identification in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV at the CERN LHC. Details are given on the reconstruction of photons from energy deposits in the electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) and the extraction of photon energy estimates. The reconstruction of electron tracks from photons that convert to electrons in the CMS ...Journal Article -
Search for Long-Lived Neutral Particles Decaying to Quark-Antiquark Pairs in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s = 8 TeV
(2015)Physical Review DA search is performed for long-lived massive neutral particles decaying to quark-antiquark pairs. The experimental signature is a distinctive topology of a pair of jets, originating at a secondary vertex. Events were collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The data analyzed correspond to an integrated luminosity of 18.5 fb−1. No significant excess is observed above ...Journal Article -
Search for long-lived particles that decay into final states containing two electrons or two muons in proton-proton collisions at √s = 8 TeV
(2015)Physical Review DA search is performed for long-lived particles that decay into final states that include a pair of electrons or a pair of muons. The experimental signature is a distinctive topology consisting of a pair of charged leptons originating from a displaced secondary vertex. Events corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 (20.5) fb−1 in the electron (muon) channel were collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC in proton-proton ...Journal Article -

Measurement of the W boson helicity in events with a single reconstructed top quark in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV
(2015)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA measurement of the W boson helicity is presented, where the W boson originates from the decay of a top quark produced in pp collisions. The event selection, optimized for reconstructing a single top quark in the final state, requires exactly one isolated lepton (muon or electron) and exactly two jets, one of which is likely to originate from the hadronization of a bottom quark. The analysis is performed using data recorded at a ...Journal Article -
Observation of the rare Bs0 →µ+µ− decay from the combined analysis of CMS and LHCb data
(2015)NatureThe standard model of particle physics describes the fundamental particles and their interactions via the strong, electromagnetic and weak forces. It provides precise predictions for measurable quantities that can be tested experimentally. The probabilities, or branching fractions, of the strange B meson ( ) and the B0 meson decaying into two oppositely charged muons (μ+ and μ−) are especially interesting because of their sensitivity to ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the ratio of the production cross sections times branching fractions of Bc ±→ J/ψπ± and B± → J/ψK± and (Formula presented.) in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV
(2015)Journal of High Energy Physicshe ratio of the production cross sections times branching fractions (σ(B±c)B(B±c→J/ψπ±))/(σ(B±)B(B±→J/ψK±)) is studied in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The kinematic region investigated requires B c ± and B± mesons with transverse momentum p T > 15 GeV and rapidity |y| < 1.6. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.1 fb−1. The ratio is determined to be ...Journal Article
