Measurement of the cross section and angular correlations for associated production of a Z boson with b hadrons in pp collisions at s√= 7 TeV
(2013)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA study of proton-proton collisions in which two b hadrons are produced in association with a Z boson is reported. The collisions were recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeVwith the CMS detector at the LHC, for an integrated luminosity of 5.2 fb−1. The b hadrons are identified by means of displaced secondary vertices, without the use of reconstructed jets, permitting the study of b-hadron pair production at small angular separation. ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the differential and double-differential Drell-Yan cross sections in proton-proton collisions at s √ = 7 TeV
(2013)Journal of High Energy PhysicsMeasurements of the differential and double-differential Drell-Yan cross sections are presented using an integrated luminosity of 4.5 (4.8) fb−1 in the dimuon (dielectron) channel of proton-proton collision data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at s√ = 7 TeV. The measured inclusive cross section in the Z-peak region (60–120 GeV) is σ(ℓℓ) = 986.4 ± 0.6 (stat.) ± 5.9 (exp. syst.) ± 21.7 (th. syst.) ± 21.7 (lum.) pb for the combination ...Journal Article -
Search for Top Squarks in R-Parity-Violating Supersymmetry Using Three or More Leptons and b-Tagged Jets
(2013)Physical Review LettersA search for anomalous production of events with three or more isolated leptons and bottom-quark jets produced in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV is presented. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1 collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2012. No excess above the standard model expectations is observed. The results are interpreted in the context of supersymmetric models with ...Journal Article -
Angular analysis and branching fraction measurement of the decay B0→K*0μ+μ-
(2013)Physics Letters BThe angular distributions and the differential branching fraction of the decay B0→K*(892)0μ+μ- are studied using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.2fb-1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in pp collisions at s=7TeV. From more than 400 signal decays, the forward-backward asymmetry of the muons, the K*(892)0 longitudinal polarization fraction, and the differential branching fraction are determined as a ...Journal Article -
Search for a non-standard-model Higgs boson decaying to a pair of new light bosons in four-muon final states
(2013)Physics Letters BResults are reported from a search for non-standard-model Higgs boson decays to pairs of new light bosons, each of which decays into the μ+μ- final state. The new bosons may be produced either promptly or via a decay chain. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.3 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions at s=7 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2011. Such Higgs boson decays are predicted in several scenarios of ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the Υ (1S), Υ (2S), and Υ (3S) cross sections in pp collisions at √s=7TeV
(2013)Physics Letters BThe Υ(1S), Υ(2S), and Υ(3S) production cross sections are measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.8±1.4pb-1 of proton-proton collisions at s=7TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The Υ resonances are identified through their decays to dimuons. Integrated over the Υ transverse momentum range pTΥ<50GeV/c and rapidity range |yΥ|<2.4, and assuming unpolarized Υ production, the products of the ...Journal Article -
Search for a Higgs boson decaying into a Z and a photon in pp collisions at √s=7 and 8TeV
(2013)Physics Letters BA search for a Higgs boson decaying into a Z boson and a photon is described. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision datasets recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC. Events were collected at center-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 5.0fb-1 and 19.6fb-1, respectively. The selected events are required to have opposite-sign electron or muon pairs. No excess above standard model ...Journal Article -
Search for a new bottomonium state decaying to ϒ(1S)π+π− in pp collisions at s√ = 8 TeV
(2013)Physics Letters BThe results of a search for the bottomonium counterpart, denoted as Xb, of the exotic charmonium state X(3872) is presented. The analysis is based on a sample of pp collisions at s=8 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.7 fb-1. The search looks for the exclusive decay channel Xb→Υ{hooked}(1S)π+π- followed by Υ{hooked}(1S)→μ+μ-. No evidence for an Xb signal is observed. Upper limits ...Journal Article -
The performance of the CMS muon detector in proton-proton collisions at √s= 7 TeV at the LHC
(2013)Journal of InstrumentationThe performance of all subsystems of the CMS muon detector has been studied by using a sample of proton-proton collision data at √s = 7 TeV collected at the LHC in 2010 that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 40 pb-1. The measured distributions of the major operational parameters of the drift tube (DT), cathode strip chamber (CSC), and resistive plate chamber (RPC) systems met the design specifications. The spatial ...Journal Article -
Searches for new physics using the tt ¯ invariant mass distribution in pp collisions at s √ =8 TeV
(2013)Physical Review LettersSearches for anomalous top quark-antiquark production are presented, based on pp collisions at √s=8 TeV. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1, were collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The observed t¯t invariant mass spectrum is found to be compatible with the standard model prediction. Limits on the production cross section times branching fraction probe, for the first time, a region of parameter space ...Journal Article
