Quantum cascade laser frequency combs: physics and applications
(2016)2016 Compound Semiconductor Week (CSW)Summary form only given. The quantum cascade laser has demonstrated the ability to provide gain over a very broad wavelength range, and has found many applications for sensing based on arrays of single frequency lasers or as external cavity lasers. Recently, we have shown that such broadband devices, when operated in continuous wave, emit as a coherent optical comb in which the phase relation between the comb modes corresponds approximately ...Other Conference Item -
From charge detection to Coulomb drag in hybrid graphene/GaAs devices
(2016)2016 Compound Semiconductor Week (CSW)Summary form only given. We present coupled hybrid nanostructures using the combination of lithographically patterned graphene and a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) buried in a GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure. The graphene forms Schottky barriers at the surface of the heterostructure and therefore allows for tuning the electronic density of the 2DEG. With graphene top gates, high quality nanostructures are defined in the GaAs 2DEG. ...Other Conference Item -
The Synchronicity of the Non-Synchronous: Changing Institutional Systems in Station District Redevelopment in Switzerland
(2022)Online Conference on Urban Regeneration Trends in Europe - ProgramStation districts are focal points for urban regeneration and play a shaping role in improving compact spaces through transit-oriented development. Redeveloping a station district equals an effort in which actors enter partnerships outside their familiar institutional systems. Therefore, developers must balance traditional collaboration approaches and planning tools (based on formal institutions) with informal institutions, considering ...Other Conference Item -
Station district planning for sustainable spatial and transportation development: Actors’ responses to asymmetric power dynamics
(2022)Book of Abstracts: IOER Annual Conference "Space & Transformation: Liveable Futures"Station districts are focal points to integrate spatial and transportation development in the urban fabric and help prevent unsustainable trends, such as urban sprawl and declined transit. Planning station districts is complex due to two reasons. First, a station district has an expanded development perimeter, including potential projects in the transit station, station area, adjacent neighborhoods, and spaces connecting mass transit with ...Other Conference Item -
Station Districts and Institutional Transformation: The Salience of Informal Institutions in Planning Culture
(2021)Adapting Planning: Rethinking the Planning Practices - Book of AbstractsStation districts are focal points for sustainable spatial development in the urban fabric and play a crucial role in transit-oriented development. Planning a station district is a multi-sector process in which stakeholders collaborate outside the familiar institutional landscapes of their organizations. Therefore, planners need to adapt and balance traditional collaboration practices (based on formal institutions) with informal institutions, ...Other Conference Item -

Transdisciplinarity Worldwide: Same Same but Different?
(2022)International Transdisciplinarity Conference 2021: Creating Spaces and Cultivating Mindsets for Learning and Experimentation - Conference BookletTransdisciplinarity (TD) and TD research in different corners of the world are only very partially comparable – is that really the case? How much does TD indeed differ across social-cultural borders, and what commonalities might be shared worldwide? Let us explore these questions together and take the discourse of TD across social-cultural borders beyond the traditional, often deficient Global South-North comparison. In this session, we ...Other Conference Item -
What is Transdisciplinarity?
(2022)International Transdisciplinarity Conference 2021: Creating Spaces and Cultivating Mindsets for Learning and Experimentation - Conference BookletHave you ever struggled to explain to your colleagues, friends, or family what Transdisciplinarity (TD) is? Have you ever asked yourself how your own TD research is situated in the greater landscape of research? SPOILER ALERT: There are many answers to these questions rather than a few single ultimate definitions. In this session, we will first elaborate together on what we mean by TD. Then we will hear from two experts about diverse ...Other Conference Item -
