Ethics guidelines in Citizen Science
(2020)The aim of this report is to support the Competence Center Citizen Science Zurich (CCCS). Starting out from the point of research oversight in the Swiss context, it gives an overview of existing ethics guidelines in citizen science as promoted by the Citizen Science Association (CSA), the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA) and similar organizations. It highlights the relative lack of attention to ethical governance and processes ...Report -
Searching for long-lived particles beyond the Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider
(2020)Journal of Physics G: Nuclear and Particle PhysicsParticles beyond the Standard Model (SM) can generically have lifetimes that are long compared to SM particles at the weak scale. When produced at experiments such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, these long-lived particles (LLPs) can decay far from the interaction vertex of the primary proton–proton collision. Such LLP signatures are distinct from those of promptly decaying particles that are targeted by the majority of searches ...Report -

The ETH Zurich flight emission project: Emissions 2016-2019
(2021)The following report shows the evolution of the greenhouse gas emissions from flights from business trips undertaken by ETH Zurich staff and guests, provided that the expenses are covered by ETH Zurich, and by students as part of their curriculum for the period 2016 to 2019. Overall, the flight emissions have decreased in 2019 compared to the base period 2016-2018, and more than half of the departments have already met their pledged 2025 ...Report -
In-situ and laboratory geotechnical investigations (CPTu, sediment coring) performed in Lake Lucerne (Switzerland) in 2018–2020
(2022)In the framework of an SNSF-funded SINERGIA project “Lake Tsunamis: Causes, Controls and Hazard” we performed dense geotechnical investigations along the slope-perpendicular profiles at 11 sites in Lake Lucerne, central Switzerland, where the slopes have failed in the past or might be susceptible to future failures. In total, 152 in-situ free-fall cone penetration tests with pore pressure measurement (CPTu) and laboratory analysis of 49 ...Report -
