Accuracy enhancing protocols for quantum clocks
(2019)arXivThe accuracy of the time information generated by clocks can be enhanced by allowing them to communicate with each other. Here we consider a basic scenario where a quantum clock receives a low-accuracy time signal as input and ask whether it can generate an output of higher accuracy. We propose protocols that, using a clock with a $d$-dimensional state space, achieve an accuracy enhancement by a factor $d$ (in the limit of large $d$). If ...Working Paper -
Local gravitational energy in higher dimensions
(2019)arXivIn general relativity, the local gravitational energy is best characterised by the quasilocal mass. The small sphere limit of quasilocal mass provides us the most local notion of gravitational energy. In four dimensions, the limits were shown be the stress tensor in non-vacuum and the Bel-Robinson tensor in vacuum. We study the local gravitational energy in higher dimensions through the lens of the small sphere limits of various quasilocal ...Working Paper -
Introduction to UniversalQCompiler
(2019)arXivWe introduce an open source software package UniversalQCompiler written in Mathematica that allows the decomposition of arbitrary quantum operations into a sequence of single-qubit rotations (with arbitrary rotation angles) and controlled-NOT (C-NOT) gates. Together with the existing package QI, this allows quantum information protocols to be analysed and then compiled to quantum circuits. Our decompositions are based on Phys. Rev. A 93, ...Working Paper -
Russian-Western Blind Spots: From Dialogue on Contested Narratives to Improved Understanding
(2019)This report is the result of a collective effort by the participants in the Russian-German Dialogue Project ‘Reflecting on Conflict Narratives’. It draws on a dialogue process of two workshops held in Moscow and Berlin in September and November 2018. The report highlights the competing narratives following the end of the Cold War, outlines their consequences, and provides recommendations to increase Russian-German cooperation.Report -
SCCER Mobility Mission Report
(2019)Summary of strategic goals for energy research post 2020 for the mobility sector in accordance with the Swiss Energy Strategy 2050 by reviewing the original aim and achieved progress in Phase 1 and Phase 2 of SCCER Mobility. In addition, we consider international trends and insights from similar initiatives and studies abroad, as well as further developments that became relevant in the last few years.Working Paper -

Lemons and Peaches: A (Robust) Multi-stage Buying Mechanism with Multiple Applications
(2019)CEPR Discussion PapersWe introduce a four-stage, multi-price buying mechanism, which can be used by a (big) buyer to separate low-quality sellers - called "lemon" owners - from high-quality sellers - called "peach" owners. With a partition of sellers, the buyer obtains the commodities from the "peach" owners at a price that matches the willingness to sell. By contrast, "lemon" owners are trapped into selling their items at a low, or even negligible, price. Our ...Working Paper
