Vote-share bonds
(2010)VOX CEPR's Policy PortalHow can excessive public debt be avoided? This column proposes a novel solution: “vote-share bonds”. These government bonds are tied to the share of the vote that the adoption of the underlying deficit has received in parliament. A bond with a higher vote-share is considered senior. Vote-share bonds inspire fiscal responsibility, while retaining the flexibility to stabilise negative macroeconomic shocks.Other Publication -

From Stockholm to Sofia
(2010)European Energy ReviewHaving been on the road of late at various energy bashes, it was fascinating to get closer insights into how “opposite poles” on the European map see energy security playing out, namely in Stockholm and Sofia. Both capitals are key players in the future pipeline complexion of Europe. Nord Stream = up North in Scandinavia and the Southern corridor = down South in South East Europe.Other Publication -

Carbon nanotubes as transitor material
(2010)ETH LifeETH Zurich researchers have built a transistor whose crucial element is a carbon nano-tube, suspended between two contacts, with outstanding electronic properties. A novel fabrication approach allowed the scientists to construct a transistor with no gate hysteresis. This opens up new ways to manufacture nano-sensors and components that consume particularly little energy.Other Publication -

Postkoloniale Studien
Earthquake location accuracy
(2010)Community Online Resource for Statistical Seismicity AnalysisEarthquake location catalogs are not an exact representation of the true earthquake locations. They contain random error, for example from errors in the arrival time picks, as well as systematic biases. The most important source of systematic errors in earthquake locations is the inherent coupling of earthquake locations to the seismic velocity structure of the Earth. Random errors may be accounted for in formal uncertainty estimates, but ...Other Publication
