Parameter identification for piecewise deterministic markov processes: A case study on a biochemical network
(2006)IPV-IFAC Proceedings Volume ~ Analysis and Design of Hybrid Systems 2006The first part of the paper focuses on the use of Piecewise Deterministic Markov Processes (PDMP) for the modeling of biochemical networks. As a case study, the production of the peptide antibiotic B.Subtilis is considered. The second part of the paper is devoted to the problem of identifying unkown parameters of the model equations, based on experimental data. For the identification task we propose the use of Genetic Algorithms. An example ...Conference Paper -
A Teaching System for Hands-on Quadcopter Control
(2019)IFAC-PapersOnLine ~ 12th IFAC Symposium on Advances in Control Education, ACE 2019. ProceedingsQuadcopters, popular in consumer and commercial applications, are a perfect testing ground for both basic and advanced control techniques. This makes them an ideal platform for offering experiment-based control courses. We present the software system developed to teach hands-on quadcopter control, that we have used to offer a short course to groups of 32 undergraduate electrical engineering students. Our system allows students to work ...Conference Paper -
Learning the structure of genetic network dynamics: A geometric approch
(2011)IFAC Proceedings Volumes ~ Proceedings of the 18th World CongressThis work concerns the identification of the structure of a genetic network model from measurements of gene product concentrations and synthesis rates. In earlier work, for a wide family of network models, we developed a data preprocessing algorithm that is able to reject many hypotheses on the network structure by testing certain monotonicity properties of the models. Here we develop a geometric analysis of the method. Then, for a relevant ...Conference Paper -
Approximate viability using quasi-random samples and a neural network classifier
(2008)IFAC Proceedings Volumes ~ Proceedings of the 17th IFAC World CongressWe propose a novel approach to the computational investigation of reachability properties for nonlinear control systems. Our goal is to combat the curse of dimensionality, by proposing a mesh-free algorithm to numerically approximate the viability kernel of a given compact set. Our algorithm is based on a non-smooth analysis characterization of the viability kernel. At its heart is a neural network classifier based on Bayesian regularization, ...Conference Paper
