MILP Formulation for Dynamic Demand Response of Electrolyzers
(2022)Computer Aided Chemical Engineering ~ 14th International Symposium on Process Systems EngineeringElectrolyzers can reduce their electricity costs through demand response (DR) by adapting their production rate to time-varying market prices. Although the production rate can often be adapted rapidly, exploiting the full DR potential of an electrolyzer requires to consider slow temperature dynamics, leading to challenging mixed-integer dynamic optimization problems. In this contribution, we propose a dynamic ramping reformulation for ...Conference Paper -
Upgrading Waste Heat from 90 to 110 °C: The Potential of Adsorption Heat Transformation
(2021)Herein, the potential of adsorption heat transformers (AdHTs) to upgrade abundantly available low-temperature waste heat above 100 °C is estimated. An AdHT with optimized design and control can recover up to 64% of the exergy input and offers competitive power densities. Thus, this model-based study demonstrates the promising performance of AdHTs for exploiting waste heat around 100 °C.Other Conference Item -
Heat and Mass Transfer Kinetics of MOF-Coatings from Alfumarate and CAU-10(Al)-H from IR-LTJ experiments: The Impact of Characteristic Times
(2021)The metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) Al-fumarate and aluminum-isophthalate CAU-10 (CAU = Christian Albrechts University Kiel) are considered for water-based adsorption chillers because of their excellent cyclic stability and high water uptake. However, water uptake captures only the equilibrium behavior, while process performance depends strongly on kinetics. In this work, we, therefore, determine characteristic time constants for water ...Other Conference Item -
Experimental Validation of a Dynamic Adsorption Chiller Model Using Optimal Experimental Design
(2021)A potential way to reduce the global greenhouse gas emissions for cooling and heating are thermally-driven cooling and heating technologies, such as sorption chillers. However, sorption chillers often suffer from high electricity consumption due to sub-optimal system integration. To optimize system integration, model-based approaches are very promising, but require valid models. For efficient model validation, we present a method based ...Other Conference Item
