Abstract
We present a novel study of symmetric and asymmetric luminal flows inside GUVs induced by external shear conducted with a revised method for the visualization and analysis of three-dimensional liquid flows. GUVs are captured and immobilized at various locations inside microfluidic channels and exposed to liquid flow. Defocusing fluorescence microscopy of beads enclosed inside the GUVs reveals their three-dimensional motion, i.e. the luminal flow, at high spatial and temporal resolution. The luminal flow pattern and the velocity vary with respect to the symmetry and velocity of external flow. Show more
