Expression and localization of Ski determine cell type-specific TGF beta signaling effects on the cell cycle
(2008)The Journal of Cell BiologyTransforming growth factor β (TGFβ) promotes epithelial cell differentiation but induces Schwann cell proliferation. We show that the protooncogene Ski (Sloan-Kettering viral oncogene homologue) is an important regulator of these effects. TGFβ down-regulates Ski in epithelial cells but not in Schwann cells. In Schwann cells but not in epithelial cells, retinoblastoma protein (Rb) is up-regulated by TGFβ. Additionally, both Ski and Rb move ...Journal Article -
From Hearing to Listening: Design and Properties of an Actively Tunable Electronic Hearing Sensor
(2007)SensorsAn important step towards understanding the working principles of the mammalian hearing sensor is the concept of an active cochlear amplifier. Theoretical arguments and physiological measurements suggest that the active cochlear amplifiers originate from systems close to a Hopf bifurcation. Efforts to model the mammalian hearing sensor on these grounds have, however, either had problems in reproducing sufficiently close essential aspects ...Journal Article -
Seasonal variability of measured ozone production efficiencies in the lower free troposphere of Central Europe
(2007)Atmospheric Chemistry and PhysicsIn this study we present the seasonal variability of ozone production efficiencies (EN), defined as the net number of ozone molecules produced per molecule of nitrogen oxides (nitrogen oxide (NO) + nitrogen dioxide (NO2)=NOx) oxidized to NOz (total reactive nitrogen (NOy)–NOx) determined from field measurements of a seven-year period (1998–2004) at the Swiss high-alpine research station Jungfraujoch (JFJ), 3580 m a.s.l. This dataset is a ...Journal Article
