Searches for long-lived charged particles in pp collisions at √s=7 and 8 TeV
(2013)Journal of High Energy PhysicsResults of searches for heavy stable charged particles produced in pp collisions at □ = 7 and 8 TeV are presented corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb-1 and 18.8 fb-1, respectively. Data collected with the CMS detector are used to study the momentum, energy deposition, and time-of-flight of signal candidates. Leptons with an electric charge between e/3 and 8e, as well as bound states that can undergo charge exchange with ...Journal Article -
Search for microscopic black holes in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV
(2013)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for microscopic black holes and string balls is presented, based on a data sample of pp collisions at s√=8 TeV recorded by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 12 fb−1. No excess of events with energetic multiparticle final states, typical of black hole production or of similar new physics processes, is observed. Given the agreement of the observations with the expected ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the Λ0b lifetime in pp collisions at s√=7 TeV
(2013)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA measurement of the Λ0b lifetime using the decay Λ0b→J/ψΛ in protonproton collisions at s√=7 TeV is presented. The data set, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 5 fb−1, was recorded with the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider using triggers that selected dimuon events in the J/ψ mass region. The Λ0b lifetime is measured to be 1.503 ± 0.052 (stat.) ± 0.031 (syst.) ps.Journal Article -
Search for heavy resonances in the W/Z-tagged dijet mass spectrum in pp collisions at 7 TeV
(2013)Physics Letters BA search has been made for massive resonances decaying into a quark and a vector boson, qW or qZ, or a pair of vector bosons, WW, WZ, or ZZ, where each vector boson decays to hadronic final states. This search is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions collected in the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2011 at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. For sufficiently heavy resonances ...Journal Article -
Search for a standard-model-like Higgs boson with a mass in the range 145 to 1000 GeV at the LHC
(2013)The European Physical Journal CA search for a standard-model-like Higgs boson in the H→WW and H→ZZ decay channels is reported, for Higgs boson masses in the range 145<m H<1000 GeV. The search is based upon proton–proton collision data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 5.1 fb−1 at s√=7 TeV and up to 5.3 fb−1 at s√=8 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The combined upper limits at 95 % confidence level on products of the cross section ...Other Journal Item -
Search for narrow resonances using the dijet mass spectrum in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV
(2013)Physical Review DResults are presented of a search for the production of new particles decaying to pairs of partons (quarks, antiquarks, or gluons), in the dijet mass spectrum in proton-proton collisions at √s=8 TeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.0 fb−1, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2012. No significant evidence for narrow resonance production is observed. Upper limits are set at the 95% confidence level ...Journal Article -

Observation of a new boson with mass near 125 GeV in pp collisions at √s=7 and 8 TeV
(2013)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA detailed description is reported of the analysis used by the CMS Collaboration in the search for the standard model Higgs boson in pp collisions at the LHC, which led to the observation of a new boson. The data sample corresponds to integrated luminosities up to 5.1 fb−1 at s√=7 TeV, and up to 5.3 fb−1 at s√=8 TeV. The results for five Higgs boson decay modes γγ, ZZ, WW, ττ, and bb, which show a combined local significance of 5 standard ...Journal Article -
Event shapes and azimuthal correlations in Z plus jets events in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV
(2013)Physics Letters BMeasurements of event shapes and azimuthal correlations are presented for events where a Z boson is produced in association with jets in proton-proton collisions. The data collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC at root s = 7 TeV correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1). The analysis provides a test of predictions from perturbative QCD for a process that represents a substantial background to many physics channels. ...Journal Article
