Search for the associated production of the Higgs boson and a vector boson in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV via Higgs boson decays to τ leptons
(2019)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a W or a Z boson and decaying to a pair of τ leptons is performed. A data sample of proton-proton collisions collected at s√ = 13 TeV by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC is used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The signal strength is measured relative to the expectation for the standard model Higgs boson, yielding μ = 2.5 − 1.3 + 1.4 . These ...Journal Article -
Search for supersymmetry in final states with photons and missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV
(2019)Journal of High Energy PhysicsResults are reported of a search for supersymmetry in final states with photons and missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1 collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV using the CMS detector. The results are interpreted in the context of models of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. Production cross section limits are set on gluino and ...Journal Article -
Search for an Lμ − Lτ gauge boson using Z → 4μ events in proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV
(2019)Physics Letters BA search for a narrow gauge boson with a mass between 5 and 70 GeV resulting from an local gauge symmetry is reported. Theories that predict such a particle have been proposed as an explanation of various experimental discrepancies, including the lack of a dark matter signal in direct-detection experiments, tension in the measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, and reports of possible lepton flavor universality violation ...Journal Article -
Measurement and interpretation of differential cross sections for Higgs boson production at s=13TeV
(2019)Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy PhysicsDifferential Higgs boson (H) production cross sections are sensitive probes for physics beyond the standard model. New physics may contribute in the gluon-gluon fusion loop, the dominant Higgs boson production mechanism at the LHC, and manifest itself through deviations from the distributions predicted by the standard model. Combined spectra for the H -> ϒϒ, H-> ZZ, and H -> bb decay channels and the inclusive Higgs boson production cross ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the energy density as a function of pseudorapidity in proton–proton collisions at √s=13TeV
(2019)The European Physical Journal CA measurement of the energy density in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s√=13 TeV is presented. The data have been recorded with the CMS experiment at the LHC during low luminosity operations in 2015. The energy density is studied as a function of pseudorapidity in the ranges −6.6<η<−5.2 and 3.15<|η|<5.20. The results are compared with the predictions of several models. All the models considered suggest a different ...Journal Article -
Search for supersymmetry in events with a photon, jets, b -jets, and missing transverse momentum in proton–proton collisions at 13TeV
(2019)The European Physical Journal CA search for supersymmetry is presented based on events with at least one photon, jets, and large missing transverse momentum produced in proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1 and were recorded at the LHC with the CMS detector in 2016. The analysis characterizes signal-like events by categorizing the data into various signal regions based on the number of ...Journal Article -
Search for associated production of a Higgs boson and a single top quark in proton-proton collisions at s =13 TeV
(2019)Physical Review DA search is presented for the production of a Higgs boson in association with a single top quark, based on data collected in 2016 by the CMS experiment at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The production cross section for this process is highly sensitive to the absolute values of the top quark Yukawa coupling, yt; the Higgs boson coupling to vector bosons, gHVV; and, ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the t t ¯ production cross section, the top quark mass, and the strong coupling constant using dilepton events in pp collisions at √s=13Te
(2019)The European Physical Journal CA measurement of the top quark–antiquark pair production cross section σtt¯ in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13TeV is presented. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1, recorded by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC in 2016. Dilepton events (e ± μ ∓, μ+μ−, e+e−) are selected and the cross section is measured from a likelihood fit. For a top quark mass parameter in the simulation of mMCt=172.5GeV ...Journal Article -
Measurement of inclusive very forward jet cross sections in proton-lead collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV
(2019)Journal of High Energy PhysicsMeasurements of differential cross sections for inclusive very forward jet production in proton-lead collisions as a function of jet energy are presented. The data were collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC in the laboratory pseudorapidity range −6.6 < η < −5.2. Asymmetric beam energies of 4 TeV for protons and 1.58 TeV per nucleon for Pb nuclei were used, corresponding to a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of √sNN = 5.02 ...Journal Article -
Search for a low-mass τ−τ+ resonance in association with a bottom quark in proton-proton collisions at s√ = 13 TeV
(2019)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA general search is presented for a low-mass τ−τ+ resonance produced in association with a bottom quark. The search is based on proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The data are consistent with the standard model expectation. Upper limits at 95% confidence level on the cross section times branching fraction are ...Journal Article
