Measurement of the Z boson differential cross section in transverse momentum and rapidity in proton–proton collisions at 8 TeV
(2015)Physics Letters BWe present a measurement of the Z boson differential cross section in rapidity and transverse momentum using a data sample of pp collision events at a centre-of-mass energy s=8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1. The Z boson is identified via its decay to a pair of muons. The measurement provides a precision test of quantum chromodynamics over a large region of phase space. In addition, due to the small experimental ...Journal Article -
Search for Narrow High-Mass Resonances in Proton–Proton Collisions at √s = 8 TeV Decaying to a Z and a Higgs Boson
(2015)Physics Letters BA search for a narrow, high-mass resonance decaying into Z and Higgs (H) bosons is presented. The final state studied consists of a merged jet pair and a τ pair resulting from the decays of Z and H bosons, respectively. The analysis is based on a data sample of proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, collected with the CMS experiment in 2012, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1. In the resonance ...Journal Article -
Search for heavy Majorana neutrinos in μ±μ± + jets events in proton–proton collisions at √s=8 TeV
(2015)Physics Letters BA search is performed for heavy Majorana neutrinos (N) using an event signature defined by two muons of the same charge and two jets (μ±μ±jj). The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. No excess of events is observed beyond the expected standard model background and upper limits are set on |VμN|2 as a function ...Journal Article -
Search for pair-produced resonances decaying to jet pairs in proton–proton collisions at √s = 8 TeV
(2015)Physics Letters BResults are reported of a general search for pair production of heavy resonances decaying to pairs of hadronic jets in events with at least four jets. The study is based on up to 19.4 fb−1 of integrated luminosity from proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. Limits are determined on the production of scalar top quarks (top squarks) in the framework of R-parity violating ...Journal Article -
Evidence for Collective Multiparticle Correlations in p-Pb Collisions
(2015)Physical Review LettersThe second-order azimuthal anisotropy Fourier harmonics, v2, are obtained in p−Pb and PbPb collisions over a wide pseudorapidity (η) range based on correlations among six or more charged particles. The p-Pb data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35 nb−1, were collected during the 2013 LHC p-Pb run at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV by the CMS experiment. A sample of semiperipheral PbPb collision data at ...Journal Article -
Distributions of topological observables in inclusive three- and four-jet events in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2015)The European Physical Journal CThis paper presents distributions of topological observables in inclusive three- and four-jet events produced in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7TeV with a data sample collected by the CMS experiment corresponding to a luminosity of 5.1fb−1. The distributions are corrected for detector effects, and compared with several event generators based on two- and multi-parton matrix elements at leading order. Among the considered ...Journal Article -
Constraints on the pMSSM, AMSB Model and on Other Models from the Search for Long-Lived Charged Particles in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s = 8 TeV
(2015)The European Physical Journal CStringent limits are set on the long-lived lepton-like sector of the phenomenological minimal supersymmetric standard model (pMSSM) and the anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking (AMSB) model. The limits are derived from the results presented in a recent search for long-lived charged particles in proton–proton collisions, based on data collected by the CMS detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. In the ...Journal Article -
Constraints on the spin-parity and anomalous HVV couplings of the Higgs boson in proton collisions at 7 and 8 TeV
(2015)Physical Review DThe study of the spin-parity and tensor structure of the interactions of the recently discovered Higgs boson is performed using the H→ZZ,Zγ∗,γ∗γ∗→4ℓ, H→WW→ℓνℓν, and H→γγ decay modes. The full data set recorded by the CMS experiment during the LHC run 1 is used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 5.1 fb−1 at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV and up to 19.7 fb−1 at 8 TeV. A wide range of spin-two models is excluded at a 99% ...Journal Article -
Measurement of diffractive dissociation cross sections in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV
(2015)Physical Review DMeasurements of diffractive dissociation cross sections in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV are presented in kinematic regions defined by the masses MX and MY of the two final-state hadronic systems separated by the largest rapidity gap in the event. Differential cross sections are measured as a function of ξX=M2X/s in the region −5.5<log10ξX<−2.5, for log10MY<0.5, dominated by single dissociation (SD), and 0.5<log10MY<1.1, dominated by double ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the cross section ratio σtt¯bb¯/σtt¯jj in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV
(2015)Physics Letters BThe first measurement of the cross section ratio σtt¯bb¯/σtt¯jj is presented using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 fb−1 collected in pp collisions at s=8 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. Events with two leptons (e or μ) and four reconstructed jets, including two identified as b quark jets, in the final state are selected. The ratio is determined for a minimum jet transverse momentum pT of both 20 and ...Journal Article
