Crowdsourcing
Abstract
Show more
Web-based image databases simplify the involvement of users in an image archive on a voluntary basis. This so-called crowdsourcing was used to identify and describe the holdings of the Swissair photo archive. Former employees of the airline spent four years (2009–2013) annotating around 40,000 images online. The processing of the photo archive was possible as soon as the holdings were acquired thanks to third-party funding. This article focuses on the experiences with crowdsourcing in terms of PR work, editorial workflow, technical realisation and the supervisory effort involved. Show more
