Current applications using key mineral phases in igneous and metamorphic geology: perspectives for the future
(2024)Geological Society, London, Special Publications ~ Minor Minerals, Major Implications: Using Key Mineral Phases to Unravel the Formation and Evolution of Earth's CrustThe study of magmatic and metamorphic processes is challenged by geological complexities like geochemical variations, geochronological uncertainties and the presence/absence of fluids and/or melts. However, by integrating petrographic and microstructural studies with geochronology, geochemistry and phase equilibrium diagram investigations of different key mineral phases, it is possible to reconstruct insightful pressure–temperature–defo ...Book Chapter -

Additive Manufacturing for the Circular Built Environment: Towards Circular Construction with Earth-Based Materials
(2024)Circular Economy and Sustainability ~ A Circular Built Environment in the Digital AgeBy making rapid prototyping accessible and inexpensive, additive manufacturing (AM) has transformed the fabrication industry. The adaptability of the process to various materials makes it applicable to multiple fields ranging from complex nanoscale production in the medical field to the manufacturing of large-scale structures in the construction industry. AM methods are constantly evolving, enabling the production of complex products with ...Book Chapter -
Doing reflexivity in a self-directed learning setting
(2024)The Fabrication of the Autonomous Learner: Ethnographies of Educational Practices in Switzerland, France and GermanySelf-reflection is becoming an increasingly important concern in compulsory school education, at least in German-speaking countries. Self-reflection is supposed to support pupils’ autonomy and to improve their learning process. In this chapter, we contextualize this claim in the context of reflexive modernity and turn to the challenges of reflection in everyday school routines. With a practice-theoretical perspective, we analyse the use ...Book Chapter -
Circular Robotic Construction
(2024)Circular Economy and Sustainability ~ A Circular Built Environment in the Digital AgeIn situ robotic construction is a type of construction where mobile robotic systems build directly on the building site. To enable on-site navigation, industrial robots can be integrated with mobile bases, while mobile, high-payload construction machines can be adapted for autonomous operation. With parallel advances in sensor processing, these robotic construction processes can become robust and capable of handling non-standard, local, ...Book Chapter -
Polymer Biodegradability 2.0: A Holistic View on Polymer Biodegradation in Natural and Engineered Environments
(2023)Advances in Polymer Science ~ Advances in Polymer ScienceBiodegradable polymers are an important part of the solution toolbox to achieve circularity in the plastic economy and overcome negative impacts of a linear plastic economy. Biodegradable polymers need to excel not only on a mechanical performance level in the application to fulfill their function during the use phase but also on a biodegradation performance level after use. The biodegradation performance is tailored to the application ...Book Chapter -
Reading at Scale
(2023)Digital Humanities Research ~ Mixing MethodsThe Deutscher Novellenschatz (published in 24 volumes 1871–1876) is a collection of 86 German-language novellas edited by Paul Heyse and Hermann Kurz. It is an example of a medium-sized corpus amenable, in principle, to both, scholarly reading and automated analysis. Our point of departure was the conviction that research questions at intermediate granularity would require the combination of hermeneutic and statistical methods to achieve ...Book Chapter -
Energy-Dependent Impact of Proton Irradiation on 4H-SiC Schottky Diodes
(2023)Materials Science Forum ~ Functional Materials and Materials ReliabilityIn this work, the impact of 200 MeV proton irradiation at a fluence of 6 × 1012 cm−2 on the forward characteristics and the breakdown behaviour of nickel (Ni) and titanium (Ti) Schottky barrier diodes is explored. An improvement in the ideality factor, reduction in the threshold voltage, and an increase in the breakdown voltage is observed post irradiation. Point defects induced by the irradiation are likely responsible for the observed ...Book Chapter -
