Self-evaluation report 1999-2003
(2004)This comprehensive report summarizes the work of the Institute for Transport Planning and Systems (Institut für Verkehrsplanung und Transportsysteme: IVT) from 1999 to 2004 against the background of changes in the department and inside the Institute: teaching, research, funding, publications, professional activities, and a SWOT analysis leading to a discussion of future strategy. Its analysis and detail expand on the chapters included in ...Report -

Precision of geocoded locations and network distance estimates
(2004)Arbeitsberichte Verkehrs- und RaumplanungThis paper addresses three questions: how accuraate is the geocoding of travel diaries; what are the relationships between different network-based distance estimates, and how exact are estimates provided by self-reported distances. Three large-scale surveys in Norway and Switzerland demonstrate that very high precision is possible when survey protocol emphasises capture of addresses. The necessary databases and networks are available ...Working Paper -

Road pricing and its individual responses within travel patterns
(2004)Arbeitsberichte Verkehrs- und RaumplanungWhile mobility pricing is discussed as a suitable tool for tackling urban traffic problems, its impact on the travel pattern of individuals is largely unexplored. Individual responses to pricing emerge as a number of different changes in attitude. As an example, it involves the reduction in actual trip making, more efficient route choice decisions, trip chaining, and change of destination choice. The analysis of reliable data seems necessary ...Working Paper -
Checking our assumptions in value-of-travel-time modelling
(2004)Arbeitsberichte Verkehrs- und RaumplanungIn this paper, we discuss the issue of the choice of distribution in MMNL models in the absence of a priori information about the true shape of the distribution for a given coefficient, such as the marginal utility of travel-time. To illustrate the ability of different distributions to approximate a hypothetical true distribution, several experiments were conducted, using a combination of graphical and analytical analyses. The results ...Working Paper -
Travel distance computation from household travel survey data
(2004)Arbeitsberichte Verkehrs- und RaumplanungDistance related information that has been collected from the travel surveys requires an in-depth analysis for the quality assessment of the directly reported distance data. This paper reports the issues involved in different distances calculations and comparing the same. The objective is to assess the accuracy of the reported travel distances. This report briefly introduced the loaded network distance and comparison of network distance, ...Working Paper -
Sensitivity of accessibility measurements to the underlying transport network model

Modelling activity travel scheduling for workers
(2004)Arbeitsberichte Verkehrs- und RaumplanungActivity based models have been introduced by researchers to better explain the complex interaction between activity participation and travel demand. The basic idea is that in modern society individuals have to absolve a number of compulsory tasks (work, shopping, child care) and that they have more money and more free time for leisure activities out of home. Traditional models could not answer to change in policies not related to transport ...Working Paper
