Search for strongly interacting massive particles generating trackless jets in proton–proton collisions at s√=13TeV
(2022)The European Physical Journal CA search for dark matter in the form of strongly interacting massive particles (SIMPs) using the CMS detector at the LHC is presented. The SIMPs would be produced in pairs that manifest themselves as pairs of jets without tracks. The energy fraction of jets carried by charged particles is used as a key discriminator to suppress efficiently the large multijet background, and the remaining background is estimated directly from data. The ...Journal Article -
Measurement and QCD analysis of double-differential inclusive jet cross sections in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2022)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA measurement of the inclusive jet production in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at s = 13 TeV is presented. The double-differential cross sections are measured as a function of the jet transverse momentum pT and the absolute jet rapidity |y|. The anti-kT clustering algorithm is used with distance parameter of 0.4 (0.7) in a phase space region with jet pT from 97 GeV up to 3.1 TeV and |y| < 2.0. Data collected with the CMS detector ...Journal Article -
Search for heavy resonances decaying to a pair of Lorentz-boosted Higgs bosons in final states with leptons and a bottom quark pair at √s = 13 TeV
(2022)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for new heavy resonances decaying to a pair of Higgs bosons (HH) in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is presented. Data were collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016-2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb(-1). Resonances with a mass between 0.8 and 4.5 TeV are considered using events in which one Higgs boson decays into a bottom quark pair and the other into final states ...Journal Article -
Search for long-lived particles produced in association with a Z boson in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2022)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for long-lived particles (LLPs) produced in association with a Z boson is presented. The study is performed using data from proton-proton collisions with a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the CMS experiment during 2016-2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 117fb(-1).( )The LLPs are assumed to decay to a pair of standard model quarks that are identified as displaced jets within the CMS tracker system. ...Journal Article -
Dependence of inclusive jet production on the anti-kT distance parameter in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2020)Journal of High Energy PhysicsThe dependence of inclusive jet production in proton-proton collisions with a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV on the distance parameter R of the anti-kT algorithm is studied using data corresponding to integrated luminosities up to 35.9 fb−1 collected by the CMS experiment in 2016. The ratios of the inclusive cross sections as functions of transverse momentum pT and rapidity y, for R in the range 0.1 to 1.2 to those using R = 0.4 are ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the top quark mass using proton-proton data at √s = 7 and 8 TeV
(2016)Physical Review DA new set of measurements of the top quark mass are presented, based on the proton-proton data recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC at √s = 8 TeV corresponding to a luminosity of 19.7fb−1. The top quark mass is measured using the lepton + jets, all-jets and dilepton decay channels, giving values of 172.35 ± 0.16(stat) ± 0.48(syst) GeV, 172.32 ± 0.25(stat) ± 0.59(syst) GeV, and 172.82 ± 0.19(stat) ± 1.22(syst) GeV, respectively. When ...Journal Article -
Search for dark matter and unparticles produced in association with a Z boson in proton-proton collisions at √s = 8 TeV
(2016)Physical Review DA search for evidence of particle dark matter (DM) and unparticle production at the LHC has been performed using events containing two charged leptons, consistent with the decay of a Z boson, and large missing transverse momentum. This study is based on data collected with the CMS detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1 of pp collisions at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. No significant excess of events ...Journal Article -
Measurement of quark- and gluon-like jet fractions using jet charge in PbPb and pp collisions at 5.02 TeV
(2020)Journal of High Energy PhysicsThe momentum-weighted sum of the electric charges of particles inside a jet, known as jet charge, is sensitive to the electric charge of the particle initiating the parton shower. This paper presents jet charge distributions in sNN = 5.02 TeV lead-lead (PbPb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. These data correspond to integrated luminosities of 404 μb−1 and 27.4 pb−1 for PbPb and pp collisions, ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the cross section for electroweak production of a Z boson, a photon and two jets in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV and constraints on anomalous quartic couplings
(2020)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA measurement is presented of the cross section for electroweak production of a Z boson and a photon in association with two jets (Zγjj) in proton-proton collisions. The Z boson candidates are selected through their decay into a pair of electrons or muons. The process of interest, electroweak Zγjj production, is isolated by selecting events with a large dijet mass and a large pseudorapidity gap between the two jets. The measurement is ...Journal Article -
