Search for new resonances decaying via WZ to leptons in proton-proton collisions at √s=8TeV
(2015)Physics Letters BA search is performed in proton–proton collisions at s=8 TeV for exotic particles decaying via WZ to fully leptonic final states with electrons, muons, and neutrinos. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1. No significant excess is observed above the expected standard model background. Upper bounds at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross section of a W′ boson as predicted by an extended gauge ...Journal Article -
Evidence for associated production of a single top quark and W boson in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2013)Physical Review LettersEvidence is presented for the associated production of a single top quark and W boson in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The analyzed data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 fb−1. The measurement is performed using events with two leptons and a jet originated from a b quark. A multivariate analysis based on kinematic properties is utilized to separate the t¯t background from the signal. The ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the Top Quark Pair Production Cross Section in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s=13 TeV
(2016)Physical Review LettersThe top quark pair production cross section is measured for the first time in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 43 pb−1. The measurement is performed by analyzing events with at least one electron and one muon of opposite charge, and at least two jets. The measured cross section is 746±58(stat)±53(syst)±36(lumi) pb, in agreement with the ...Journal Article -
Study of vector boson scattering and search for new physics in events with two same-sign leptons and two jets
(2015)Physical Review LettersA study of vector boson scattering in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.4 fb−1 collected with the CMS detector. Candidate events are selected with exactly two leptons of the same charge, two jets with large rapidity separation and high dijet mass, and moderate missing transverse energy. The signal region is expected to be dominated by electroweak ...Journal Article -
Indications of Suppression of Excited Upsilon States in Pb-Pb Collisions at root(s)NN=2.76 TeV
(2011)Physical Review LettersA comparison of the relative yields of Υ resonances in the μ+μ− decay channel in Pb-Pb and pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 2.76 TeV is performed with data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. Using muons of transverse momentum above 4 GeV/c and pseudorapidity below 2.4, the double ratio of the Υ(2S) and Υ(3S) excited states to the Υ(1S) ground state in Pb-Pb and pp collisions, [Υ(2S+3S)/Υ(1S)]Pb−Pb/[ ...Journal Article -
Search for Narrow Resonances Decaying to Dijets in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s=13 TeV
(2016)Physical Review LettersA search for narrow resonances in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV is presented. The invariant mass distribution of the two leading jets is measured with the CMS detector using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.4 fb−1. The highest observed dijet mass is 6.1 TeV. The distribution is smooth and no evidence for resonant particles is observed. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross ...Journal Article -
Measurement of inclusive jet cross-sections in pp and PbPb collisions at √sNN=2.76 TeV
(2017)Physical Review CInclusive jet spectra from pp and PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 2.76TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, are presented. Jets are reconstructed with three different distance parameters (R=0.2, 0.3, and 0.4) for transverse momentum (pT) greater than 70GeV/c and pseudorapidity |η|<2. Next-to-leading-order quantum chromodynamic calculations with nonperturbative corrections are ...Journal Article -
Pseudorapidity dependence of long-range two-particle correlations in pPb collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV
(2017)Physical Review CTwo-particle correlations in pPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02TeV are studied as a function of the pseudorapidity separation (Δη) of the particle pair at small relative azimuthal angle (|Δϕ|<π/3). The correlations are decomposed into a jet component that dominates the short-range correlations (|Δη|<1), and a component that persists at large Δη and may originate from collective behavior of the produced system. ...Journal Article -
Jet energy scale and resolution in the CMS experiment in pp collisions at 8 TeV
(2017)Journal of InstrumentationImproved jet energy scale corrections, based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb-1 collected by the CMS experiment in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, are presented. The corrections as a function of pseudorapidity η and transverse momentum pT are extracted from data and simulated events combining several channels and methods. They account successively for the effects of pileup, ...Journal Article -
Inclusive search for squarks and gluinos in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2012)Physical Review DA search is performed for heavy particle pairs produced in √s=7 TeV proton-proton collisions with 35 pb−1 of data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The search is sensitive to squarks and gluinos of generic supersymmetry models, provided they are kinematically accessible, with minimal assumptions on properties of the lightest superpartner particle. The kinematic consistency of the selected events is tested against the hypothesis ...Journal Article
