Search for Stopped Gluinos in pp Collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2011)Physical Review LettersThe results of the first search for long-lived gluinos produced in 7 TeV pp collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider are presented. The search looks for evidence of long-lived particles that stop in the CMS detector and decay in the quiescent periods between beam crossings. In a dataset with a peak instantaneous luminosity of 1×1032 cm−2 s−1, an integrated luminosity of 10 pb−1, and a search interval corresponding to 62 hours of LHC ...Journal Article -
Inclusive search for supersymmetry using razor variables in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2013)Physical Review LettersAn inclusive search is presented for new heavy particle pairs produced in √s=7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC using 4.7±0.1 fb−1 of integrated luminosity. The selected events are analyzed in the 2D razor space of MR, an event-by-event indicator of the heavy particle mass scale, and R, a dimensionless variable related to the missing transverse energy. The third-generation sector is probed using the event heavy-flavor content. ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the Isolated Prompt Photon Production Cross Section in pp Collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2011)Physical Review LettersThe differential cross section for the inclusive production of isolated prompt photons has been measured as a function of the photon transverse energy EγT in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV using data recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 pb−1. Photons are required to have a pseudorapidity |ηγ|<1.45 and EγT>21 GeV, covering the kinematic region 0.006<xT<0.086. The measured ...Journal Article -
Search for Signatures of Extra Dimensions in the Diphoton Mass Spectrum at the Large Hadron Collider
(2012)Physical Review LettersA search for signatures of extra spatial dimensions in the diphoton invariant-mass spectrum has been performed with the CMS detector at the LHC. No excess of events above the standard model expectation is observed using a data sample collected in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.2 fb−1. In the context of the large-extra-dimensions model, lower limits are set on the effective Planck scale ...Journal Article -
Measurement of associated production of vector bosons and top quark-antiquark pairs in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2013)Physical Review LettersThe first measurement of vector-boson production associated with a top quark-antiquark pair in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV is presented. The results are based on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1, recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC in 2011. The measurement is performed in two independent channels through a trilepton analysis of t¯tZ events and a same-sign dilepton analysis of t¯tV (V=W or Z) ...Journal Article -
Search for Resonant Production of High-Mass Photon Pairs in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s=8 and 13 TeV
(2016)Physical Review LettersA search for the resonant production of high-mass photon pairs is presented. The analysis is based on samples of proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment at center-of-mass energies of 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 19.7 and 3.3 fb−1, respectively. The interpretation of the search results focuses on spin-0 and spin-2 resonances with masses between 0.5 and 4 TeV and with widths, relative to ...Journal Article -
Search for a Light Pseudoscalar Higgs Boson in the Dimuon Decay Channel in pp Collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2012)Physical Review LettersThe dimuon invariant mass spectrum is searched in the range between 5.5 and 14 GeV for a light pseudoscalar Higgs boson a, predicted in a number of new physics models, including the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model. The data sample used in the search corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.3 fb−1 collected in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. No excess is observed above the background predictions ...Journal Article -
Search for Quark Compositeness with the Dijet Centrality Ratio in pp Collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2010)Physical Review LettersA search for quark compositeness in the form of quark contact interactions, based on hadronic jet pairs (dijets) produced in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV, is described. The data sample of the study corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 pb−1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The dijet centrality ratio, which quantifies the angular distribution of the dijets, is measured as a function of the invariant mass of ...Journal Article -
Search for Heavy Neutrinos and WR Bosons with Right-Handed Couplings in a Left-Right Symmetric Model in pp Collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2012)Physical Review LettersResults are presented from a search for heavy, right-handed muon neutrinos, Nμ, and right-handed WR bosons, which arise in the left-right symmetric extensions of the standard model. The analysis is based on a 5.0 fb−1 sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, collected by the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No evidence is observed for an excess of events over the standard model expectation. For ...Journal Article -
Space QUEST mission proposal: experimentally testing decoherence due to gravity
(2018)New Journal of PhysicsModels of quantum systems on curved space-times lack sufficient experimental verification. Some speculative theories suggest that quantum correlations, such as entanglement, may exhibit different behavior to purely classical correlations in curved space. By measuring this effect or lack thereof, we can test the hypotheses behind several such models. For instance, as predicted by Ralph et al [5] and Ralph and Pienaar [1], a bipartite ...Journal Article
