Search for pair-produced dijet resonances in four-jet final states in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2013)Physical Review LettersA search for the pair production of a heavy, narrow resonance decaying into two jets has been performed using events collected in √s=7 TeV pp collisions with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1. Events are selected with at least four jets and two dijet combinations with similar dijet mass. No resonances are found in the dijet mass spectrum. The upper limit at 95% confidence ...Journal Article -
Constraints on the Higgs boson width from off-shell production and decay to Z-boson pairs
(2014)Physics Letters BConstraints are presented on the total width of the recently discovered Higgs boson, ΓH, using its relative on-shell and off-shell production and decay rates to a pair of Z bosons, where one Z boson decays to an electron or muon pair, and the other to an electron, muon, or neutrino pair. The analysis is based on the data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2011 and 2012, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 5.1fb -1 at a ...Journal Article -
Measurement of Inclusive W and Z Boson Production Cross Sections in pp Collisions at √s =8 Te V
(2014)Physical Review LettersA measurement of total and fiducial inclusive W and Z boson production cross sections in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV is presented. Electron and muon final states are analyzed in a data sample collected with the CMS detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 18.2±0.5 pb−1. The measured total inclusive cross sections times branching fractions are σ(pp→WX)×B(W→ℓν)=12.21±0.03(stat)±0.24(syst)±0.32(lum) nb and σ(pp→ZX)×B(Z→ℓ+ℓ−)= ...Journal Article -
Search for microscopic black hole signatures at the Large Hadron Collider
(2011)Physics Letters BA search for microscopic black hole production and decay in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV has been conducted by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35 pb−1. Events with large total transverse energy are analyzed for the presence of multiple high-energy jets, leptons, and photons, typical of a signal expected from a microscopic black hole. Good agreement ...Journal Article -
Inclusive search for a vector-like T quark with charge 2/3 in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV
(2014)Physics Letters BA search is performed for a massive new vector-like quark T, with charge 2/3, that is pair produced together with its antiparticle in proton–proton collisions. The data were collected by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012 at s=8TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.5fb−1. The T quark is assumed to decay into three different final states, bW, tZ, and tH. The search is carried out using events with at ...Journal Article -
Observation of a new Xi(b) baryon
(2012)Physical Review LettersThe observation of a new b baryon via its strong decay into Ξ−bπ+ (plus charge conjugates) is reported. The measurement uses a data sample of pp collisions at √s=7 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.3 fb−1. The known Ξ−b baryon is reconstructed via the decay chain Ξ−b→J/ψΞ−→μ+μ−Λ0π−, with Λ0→pπ−. A peak is observed in the distribution of the difference between the mass of the ...Journal Article -
Search for top-squark pairs decaying into Higgs or Z bosons in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV
(2014)Physics Letters BA search for supersymmetry through the direct pair production of top squarks, with Higgs (H) or Z bosons in the decay chain, is performed using a data sample of proton–proton collisions at √s = 8TeV collected in 2012 with the CMS detector at the LHC. The sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1. The search is performed using a selection of events containing leptons and bottom-quark jets. No evidence for a significant ...Journal Article -
Study of Z Boson Production in PbPb Collisions at √sNN=2.76 TeV
(2011)Physical Review LettersA search for Z bosons in the μ+μ− decay channel has been performed in PbPb collisions at √sNN=2.76 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC, in a 7.2 μb−1 data sample. The number of opposite-sign muon pairs observed in the 60–120 GeV/c2 invariant mass range is 39, corresponding to a yield per unit of rapidity (y) and per minimum bias event of [33.8±5.5(stat)±4.4(syst)]×10−8, in the |y|<2.0 range. Rapidity, transverse momentum, and centrality ...Journal Article -
Observation of charge-dependent azimuthal correlations in pPb collisions and its implication for the search for the chiral magnetic effect
(2017)Physical Review LettersCharge-dependent azimuthal particle correlations with respect to the second-order event plane in p−Pb and PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV have been studied with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measurement is performed with a three-particle correlation technique, using two particles with the same or opposite charge within the pseudorapidity range |η|<2.4, and a third particle measured in the hadron ...Journal Article -

(2015)Physics Letters BA search is performed in proton–proton collisions at s=8 TeV for exotic particles decaying via WZ to fully leptonic final states with electrons, muons, and neutrinos. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1. No significant excess is observed above the expected standard model background. Upper bounds at 95% confidence level are set on the production cross section of a W′ boson as predicted by an extended gauge ...Journal Article
