Observation of Sequential gamma Suppression in PbPb Collisions
(2012)Physical Review LettersThe suppression of the individual Υ(nS) states in PbPb collisions with respect to their yields in pp data has been measured. The PbPb and pp data sets used in the analysis correspond to integrated luminosities of 150 μb−1 and 230 nb−1, respectively, collected in 2011 by the CMS experiment at the LHC, at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 2.76 TeV. The Υ(nS) yields are measured from the dimuon invariant mass spectra. The suppression ...Journal Article -
Evidence of b -Jet Quenching in PbPb Collisions at √sNN =2.76 TeV
(2014)Physical Review LettersThe production of jets associated to bottom quarks is measured for the first time in PbPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair. Jet spectra are reported in the transverse momentum (pT) range of 80-250GeV/c, and within pseudorapidity |η|<2. The nuclear modification factor (RAA) calculated from these spectra shows a strong suppression in the b-jet yield in PbPb collisions relative to the yield observed in pp ...Journal Article -
Search for a Higgs boson decaying into a b-quark pair and produced in association with b quarks in proton–proton collisions at 7 TeV
(2013)Physics Letters BA search for a neutral Higgs boson decaying to a pair of b quarks, and produced in association with at least one additional b quark, is presented. Multijet final states with three jets identified as originating from b quarks, at least one of which may include a non-isolated muon, are studied. The data used in this analysis correspond to an integrated luminosity of 2.7–4.8 fb−1, collected by the CMS experiment in proton-proton collisions ...Journal Article -
Search for Dark Matter and Large Extra Dimensions in pp Collisions Yielding a Photon and Missing Transverse Energy
(2012)Physical Review LettersResults are presented from a search for new physics in the final state containing a photon (γ) and missing transverse energy (E̸T). The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1 collected in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV by the CMS experiment. The observed event yield agrees with standard-model expectations for the γ+E̸T events. Using models for the production of dark-matter particles (χ), we set 90% confidence level (C.L.) ...Journal Article -
Measurements of tt¯ spin correlations and top quark polarization using dilepton final states in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV
(2016)Physical Review DMeasurements of the top quark-antiquark (t¯t) spin correlations and the top quark polarization are presented for t¯t pairs produced in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The measurements are performed using events with two oppositely charged leptons (electrons or muons) and two or more jets, where at least one of the jets is identified as ...Journal Article -

Searches for light- and heavy-flavour three-jet resonances in pp collisions at √s=8TeV
(2014)Physics Letters BA search for three-jet hadronic resonance production in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV has been conducted by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.4 fb(-1). The search method is model independent, and events are selected that have high jet multiplicity and large values of jet transverse momenta. The signal models explored assume R-parity-violating supersymmetric ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the prompt J/ψ and ψ(2S) polarizations in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2013)Physics Letters BThe polarizations of prompt J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons are measured in proton-proton collisions at s=7 TeV, using a dimuon data sample collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 fb-1. The prompt J/ψ and ψ(2S) polarization parameters λθ{symbol}, λφ, and λθ{symbol}φ, as well as the frame-invariant quantity λ~, are measured from the dimuon decay angular distributions in three different polarization ...Journal Article -
Search for supersymmetry in pp collisions at √s= 8 TeV in events with a single lepton, large jet multiplicity, and multiple b jets
(2014)Physics Letters BResults are reported from a search for supersymmetry in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, based on events with a single isolated lepton (electron or muon) and multiple jets, at least two of which are identified as b jets. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.3 fb(-1) recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2012. The search is motivated by supersymmetric models that involve strong-production ...Journal Article -
Search for baryon number violation in top-quark decays
(2014)Physics Letters BA search for baryon number violation (BNV) in top-quark decays is performed using pp collisions produced by the LHC at s=8 TeV. The top-quark decay considered in this search results in one light lepton (muon or electron), two jets, but no neutrino in the final state. Data used for the analysis were collected by the CMS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb-1. The event selection is optimized for top quarks produced ...Journal Article
