An Agent Operationalization Approach for Context Specific Agent-Based Modeling
(2011)Journal of Artificial Societies and Social SimulationThe potential of agent-based modeling (ABM) has been demonstrated in various research fields. However, three major concerns limit the full exploitation of ABM; (i) agents are too simple and behave unrealistically without any empirical basis, (ii) 'proof of concept' applications are too theoretical and (iii) too much value placed on operational validity instead of conceptual validity. This paper presents an operationalization approach to ...Journal Article -
The Control of Mimicry by Eye Contact Is Mediated by Medial Prefrontal Cortex
(2011)The Journal of NeuroscienceSpontaneous mimicry of other people's actions serves an important social function, enhancing affiliation and social interaction. This mimicry can be subtly modulated by different social contexts. We recently found behavioral evidence that direct eye gaze rapidly and specifically enhances mimicry of intransitive hand movements (Wang et al., 2011). Based on past findings linking medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) to both eye contact and the ...Journal Article -
Prompt and non-prompt J/ψ production in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2011)The European Physical Journal CThe production of J/ψ mesons is studied in pp collisions at s√=7 TeV with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measurement is based on a dimuon sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 314 nb−1. The J/ψ differential cross section is determined, as a function of the J/ψ transverse momentum, in three rapidity ranges. A fit to the decay length distribution is used to separate the prompt from the non-prompt (b hadron to J/ψ) component. ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the diffractive longitudinal structure function F(L)(D) at HERA
(2011)The European Physical Journal CFirst measurements are presented of the diffractive cross section σ ep→eXY at centre-of-mass energies s√ of 225 and 252GeV, together with a precise new measurement at s√ of 319GeV, using data taken with the H1 detector in the years 2006 and 2007. Together with previous H1 data at s√ of 301GeV, the measurements are used to extract the diffractive longitudinal structure function FDL in the range of photon virtualities 4.0≤Q2≤44.0GeV2 and ...Journal Article -
Supersymmetry and dark matter in light of LHC 2010 and XENON100 data
(2011)The European Physical Journal CWe make frequentist analyses of the CMSSM, NUHM1, VCMSSM and mSUGRA parameter spaces taking into account all the public results of searches for supersymmetry using data from the 2010 LHC run and the XENON100 direct search for dark matter scattering. The LHC data set includes ATLAS and CMS searches for jets+/ET events (with or without leptons) and for the heavier MSSM Higgs bosons, and the upper limit on BR(B s →μ + μ −) including data ...Journal Article -
Optimisation of variables for studying dilepton transverse momentum distributions at hadron colliders
(2011)The European Physical Journal CIn future measurements of the dilepton (Z/γ ∗) transverse momentum, Q T , at both the Tevatron and LHC, the achievable bin widths and the ultimate precision of the measurements will be limited by experimental resolution rather than by the available event statistics. In a recent paper the variable a T , which corresponds to the component of Q T that is transverse to the dilepton thrust axis, has been studied in this regard. In the region, ...Journal Article -
Improved determination of the sample composition of dimuon events produced in p- p collisions at √s =1.96 TeV
(2011)The European Physical Journal CWe use a new method to estimate with 5% accuracy the contribution of pion and kaon in-flight-decays to the dimuon data set acquired with the CDF detector. Based on this improved estimate, we show that the total number and the properties of the collected dimuon events are not yet accounted for by ordinary sources of dimuons which also include the contributions, as measured in the data, of heavy flavor, ϒ, and Drell–Yan production in addition ...Journal Article -
Implications of initial LHC searches for supersymmetry
(2011)The European Physical Journal CThe CMS and ATLAS Collaborations have recently published the results of initial direct LHC searches for supersymmetry analyzing ∼35/pb of data taken at 7 TeV in the centre of mass. We incorporate these results into a frequentist analysis of the probable ranges of parameters of simple versions of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM), namely the constrained MSSM (CMSSM), a model with common non-universal Higgs ...Journal Article -
Characteristics and properties of oil-well cements additioned with blast furnace slag
(2011)Materiales de ConstrucciónThe present paper addresses the alkali activation of Portland cements containing blast furnace slag (20 and 30% by cement weight) with a view to the possible use of these materials in oil well construction. The hydration studies conducted showed that in cement/slag blends, the sodium silicate activator partially inhibited the dissolution of the silicate phases in the Portland cement, retarding cement hydration and reducing the precipitation ...Journal Article
