The Valanginian Weissert Oceanic Anoxic Event Recorded in Central-Eastern Sardinia (Italy)
(2018)Rivista italiana di paleontologia e di stratigrafiaInvestigations on the S’Ozzastru section from the northern part of the Mt Albo area (central-eastern Sardinia, Italy) for integrated litho- bio- and chemostratigraphy allowed the identification of the Valanginian Weissert Oceanic Anoxic Event (OAE), testified by a positive carbon isotope excursion (CIE). The section, which represents the deepest-water succession of the Valanginian in Sardinia, is composed of the Schiriddè Limestone followed ...Journal Article -
Domain Adaptation for One-Class Classification: Monitoring the Health of Critical Systems Under Limited Information
(2019)International Journal of Prognostics and Health ManagementThe failure of a complex and safety critical industrial asset can have extremely high consequences. Close monitoring for early detection of abnormal system conditions is therefore required. Data-driven solutions to this problem have been limited for two reasons: First, safety critical assets are designed and maintained to be highly reliable and faults are rare. Fault detection can thus not be solved with supervised learning. Second, ...Journal Article -
Crack wave resonances within the basal water layer
(2019)Annals of GlaciologyHydraulic processes within and beneath glacial bodies exert a far-reaching control on ice flow through their influence on basal sliding. Within the subglacial system, rapid changes in these processes may excite resonances whose interpretation requires an understanding of the underlying wave mechanics. Here, we explore these mechanics using observations from a kHz-sampled pressure sensor installed in a borehole directly above the hard ...Journal Article -
Detecting and characterising an englacial conduit network within a temperate Swiss glacier using active seismic, ground penetrating radar and borehole analysis
(2019)Annals of GlaciologyEnglacial hydrology plays an important role in routing surface water to the glacier's bed and it consequently affects the glacier's dynamics. However, it is often difficult to observe englacial conduit conditions on temperate glaciers because of their short-lived nature. We acquired repeated active surface seismic data over the Rhone Glacier, Switzerland to monitor and characterise englacial conduit conditions. Amplitude-versus-angle ...Journal Article -
c-MYC regulates mRNA translation efficiency and start-site selection in lymphoma
(2019)Journal of Experimental MedicineThe oncogenic c-MYC (MYC) transcription factor has broad effects on gene expression and cell behavior. We show that MYC alters the efficiency and quality of mRNA translation into functional proteins. Specifically, MYC drives the translation of most protein components of the electron transport chain in lymphoma cells, and many of these effects are independent from proliferation. Specific interactions of MYC-sensitive RNA-binding proteins ...Journal Article -

The RNA export factor Mex67 functions as a mobile nucleoporin
(2019)The Journal of Cell BiologyThe RNA export factor Mex67 is essential for the transport of mRNA through the nuclear pore complex (NPC) in yeast, but the molecular mechanism of this export process remains poorly understood. Here, we use quantitative fluorescence microscopy techniques in live budding yeast cells to investigate how Mex67 facilitates mRNA export. We show that Mex67 exhibits little interaction with mRNA in the nucleus and localizes to the NPC independently ...Journal Article -
Cognitive flexibility in adolescence: Neural and behavioral mechanisms of reward prediction error processing in adaptive decision making during development
(2015)NeuroImageAdolescence is associated with quickly changing environmental demands which require excellent adaptive skills and high cognitive flexibility. Feedback-guided adaptive learning and cognitive flexibility are driven by reward prediction error (RPE) signals, which indicate the accuracy of expectations and can be estimated using computational models. Despite the importance of cognitive flexibility during adolescence, only little is known about ...Journal Article -
Folate receptor targeted alpha-therapy using terbium-149
(2014)PharmaceuticalsTerbium-149 is among the most interesting therapeutic nuclides for medical applications. It decays by emission of short-range α-particles (Eα = 3.967 MeV) with a half-life of 4.12 h. The goal of this study was to investigate the anticancer efficacy of a 149Tb-labeled DOTA-folate conjugate (cm09) using folate receptor (FR)-positive cancer cells in vitro and in tumor-bearing mice. 149Tb was produced at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. Radiolabeling ...Journal Article -
Clearance of cerebrospinal fluid from the sacral spine through lymphatic vessels
(2019)Journal of Experimental MedicineThe pathways of circulation and clearance of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the spine have yet to be elucidated. We have recently shown with dynamic in vivo imaging that routes of outflow of CSF in mice occur along cranial nerves to extracranial lymphatic vessels. Here, we use near-infrared and magnetic resonance imaging to demonstrate the flow of CSF tracers within the spinal column and reveal the major spinal pathways for outflow to ...Journal Article
