Reconstruction of the solar spectral UV irradiance for nowcasting of the middle atmosphere state on the basis of LYRA measurements
(2008)Atmospheric Chemistry and PhysicsThe LYRA instrument onboard ESA PROBA2 satellite will provide 6-hourly solar irradiance at the Lyman-alpha (121.6 nm) and the Herzberg continuum (~200–220 nm wavelength range). Because the nowcasting of the neutral and ionic state of the middle atmosphere requires the solar irradiance for the wide spectral range (120–680 nm) we have developed the statistical tool for the reconstruction of the full spectrum from the LYRA measurements. The ...Journal Article -
Interannual-to-decadal variability of the stratosphere during the 20th century: ensemble simulations with a chemistry-climate model
(2008)Atmospheric Chemistry and PhysicsInterannual-to-decadal variability in stratospheric ozone and climate have a number of common sources, such as variations in solar irradiance, stratospheric aerosol loading due to volcanic eruptions, El Niño Southern Oscillation variability and the quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO). Currently available data records as well as model simulations addressing stratospheric chemical climate variability mostly cover only the past few decades, ...Journal Article -
Technical Note: Chemistry-climate model SOCOL: version 2.0 with improved transport and chemistry/microphysics schemes
(2008)Atmospheric Chemistry and PhysicsWe describe version 2.0 of the chemistry-climate model (CCM) SOCOL. The new version includes fundamental changes of the transport scheme such as transporting all chemical species of the model individually and applying a family-based correction scheme for mass conservation for species of the nitrogen, chlorine and bromine groups, a revised transport scheme for ozone, furthermore more detailed halogen reaction and deposition schemes, and a ...Journal Article
