Search for new long-lived particles at √ s =13 TeV
(2018)Physics Letters BThe observation of physics beyond the standard model (BSM) is one of the main objectives of the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the CERN LHC. With no signal yet observed, these experiments have placed stringent bounds on BSM models. The majority of these searches focus on particles with lab frame decay lengths of mm and incorporate selection requirements that reject longer-lived particle decays. This leaves open the possibility that long-lived ...Journal Article -
Study of dijet events with a large rapidity gap between the two leading jets in pp collisions at √s=7TeV
(2018)The European Physical Journal CEvents with no charged particles produced between the two leading jets are studied in proton-proton collisions at s√=7 TeV. The jets were required to have transverse momentum pjetT>40 GeV and pseudorapidity 1.5<|ηjet|<4.7, and to have values of ηjet with opposite signs. The data used for this study were collected with the CMS detector during low-luminosity running at the LHC, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 8pb−1. Events ...Journal Article -

Search for new physics in dijet angular distributions using proton–proton collisions at √s=13TeV and constraints on dark matter and other models
(2018)The European Physical Journal CA search is presented for physics beyond the standard model, based on measurements of dijet angular distributions in proton–proton collisions at √s=13TeV. The data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1. The observed distributions, corrected to particle level, are found to be in agreement with predictions from perturbative quantum chromodynamics that include electroweak corrections. ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the top quark mass with lepton+jets final states using p p collisions at √s=13TeV
(2018)The European Physical Journal CThe mass of the top quark is measured using a sample of tt¯ events collected by the CMS detector using proton-proton collisions at s√=13 TeV at the CERN LHC. Events are selected with one isolated muon or electron and at least four jets from data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1. For each event the mass is reconstructed from a kinematic fit of the decay products to a tt¯ hypothesis. Using the ideogram method, the top ...Journal Article -
Phylogenetic classification of the world's tropical forests
(2018)Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of AmericaKnowledge about the biogeographic affinities of the world’s tropical forests helps to better understand regional differences in forest structure, diversity, composition, and dynamics. Such understanding will enable anticipation of region-specific responses to global environmental change. Modern phylogenies, in combination with broad coverage of species inventory data, now allow for global biogeographic analyses that take species evolutionary ...Journal Article -
Search for a Hypothetical 16.7 MeV Gauge Boson and Dark Photons in the NA64 Experiment at CERN
(2018)Physical Review LettersWe report the first results on a direct search for a new 16.7 MeV boson (X) which could explain the anomalous excess of e+e− pairs observed in the excited 8Be∗ nucleus decays. Because of its coupling to electrons, the X could be produced in the bremsstrahlung reaction e−Z→e−ZX by a 100 GeV e− beam incident on an active target in the NA64 experiment at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron and observed through the subsequent decay into a e+e− ...Journal Article -
Search for an exotic decay of the Higgs boson to a pair of light pseudoscalars in the final state of two muons and two τ leptons in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV
(2018)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for exotic Higgs boson decays to light pseudoscalars in the final state of two muons and two τ leptons is performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 2016, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. Masses of the pseudoscalar boson between 15.0 and 62.5 GeV are probed, and no significant excess of data is observed above the prediction ...Journal Article -
Beyond the Required LISA Free-Fall Performance: New LISA Pathfinder Results down to 20 μhz
(2018)Physical Review LettersIn the months since the publication of the first results, the noise performance of LISA Pathfinder has improved because of reduced Brownian noise due to the continued decrease in pressure around the test masses, from a better correction of noninertial effects, and from a better calibration of the electrostatic force actuation. In addition, the availability of numerous long noise measurement runs, during which no perturbation is purposely ...Journal Article -
Search for an exotic decay of the Higgs boson to a pair of light pseudoscalars in the final state with two b quarks and two τ leptons in proton–proton collisions at s=13TeV
(2018)Physics Letters BA search for an exotic decay of the Higgs boson to a pair of light pseudoscalar bosons is performed for the first time in the final state with two b quarks and two τ leptons. The search is motivated in the context of models of physics beyond the standard model (SM), such as two Higgs doublet models extended with a complex scalar singlet (2HDM + S), which include the next-to-minimal supersymmetric SM (NMSSM). The results are based on a ...Journal Article
