Combination of differential D∗± cross-section measurements in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA
(2015)Journal of High Energy PhysicsH1 and ZEUS have published single-differential cross sections for inclusive D ∗±-meson production in deep-inelastic ep scattering at HERA from their respective final data sets. These cross sections are combined in the common visible phase-space region of photon virtuality Q 2 > 5 GeV2, electron inelasticity 0.02 < y < 0.7 and the D ∗± meson’s transverse momentum p T(D ∗) > 1.5 GeV and pseudorapidity |η(D ∗)| < 1.5. The combination procedure ...Journal Article -
Search for single production of vector-like quarks decaying to a b quark and a Higgs boson
(2018)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search is presented for single production of heavy vector-like quarks (B) that decay to a Higgs boson and a b quark, with the Higgs boson decaying to a highly boosted bb¯¯¯ pair reconstructed as a single collimated jet. The analysis is based on data collected by the CMS experiment in proton-proton collisions at s√=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The data are consistent with background expectations, and ...Journal Article -
Search for Heavy Neutral Leptons in Events with Three Charged Leptons in Proton-Proton Collisions at s =13 TeV
(2018)Physical Review LettersA search for a heavy neutral lepton N of Majorana nature decaying into a W boson and a charged lepton is performed using the CMS detector at the LHC. The targeted signature consists of three prompt charged leptons in any flavor combination of electrons and muons. The data were collected in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, with an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The search is performed in the N mass range ...Journal Article -
Search for the Exotic Meson X (5568) with the Collider Detector at Fermilab
(2018)Physical Review LettersA search for the exotic meson X(5568) decaying into the B0sπ± final state is performed using data corresponding to 9.6 fb−1 from p¯p collisions at √s=1960 GeV recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. No evidence for this state is found and an upper limit of 6.7% at the 95% confidence level is set on the fraction of B0s produced through the X(5568)→B0sπ± process.Journal Article -
Observation of Electroweak Production of Same-Sign W Boson Pairs in the Two Jet and Two Same-Sign Lepton Final State in Proton-Proton Collisions at root s=13 TeV
(2018)Physical Review LettersThe first observation of electroweak production of same-sign W boson pairs in proton-proton collisions is reported. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1 collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. Events are selected by requiring exactly two leptons (electrons or muons) of the same charge, moderate missing transverse momentum, and two jets with a large rapidity ...Journal Article -
Search for supersymmetry with photons in pp collisions at √s = 8 TeV
(2015)Physical Review DTwo searches for physics beyond the standard model in events containing photons are presented. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at √s=8 TeV, collected with the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The analyses pursue different inclusive search strategies. One analysis requires at least one photon, at least two jets, and a large amount of transverse momentum imbalance, while ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the top quark pair production cross section in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV in dilepton final states containing a τ
(2012)Physical Review DThe top quark pair production cross section is measured in dilepton events with one electron or muon, and one hadronically decaying τ lepton from the decay t¯t→(ℓνℓ)(τhντ)b¯b, (ℓ=e,μ). The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb−1 for the electron channel and 2.2 fb−1 for the muon channel, collected by the CMS detector at the LHC. This is the first measurement of the t¯t cross section explicitly including τ leptons ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the underlying event activity at the LHC with √s=7 TeV and comparison with √s=0.9 TeV
(2011)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA measurement of the underlying activity in events with a jet of transverse momentum in the several GeV region is performed in proton-proton collisions at √s=0.9 and 7 TeV, using data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The production of charged particles with pseudorapidity |η| < 2 and transverse momentum pT > 0.5 GeV/c is studied in the azimuthal region transverse to that of the leading set of charged particles forming a track-jet. ...Journal Article -
Performance of τ-lepton reconstruction and identification in CMS
(2012)Journal of InstrumentationThe performance of τ-lepton reconstruction and identification algorithms is studied using a data sample of proton-proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb−1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The τ leptons that decay into one or three charged hadrons, zero or more short-lived neutral hadrons, and a neutrino are identified using final-state particles reconstructed in the CMS tracker and ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the muon charge asymmetry in inclusive pp→W+X production at √s = 7 Tev and an improved determination of light parton distribution functions
(2014)Physical Review DMeasurements of the muon charge asymmetry in inclusive pp→W+X production at √s=7 TeV are presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb−1 recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. With a sample of more than 20 million W→μν events, the statistical precision is greatly improved in comparison to previous measurements. These new results provide additional constraints on the parton distribution functions of the ...Journal Article
