Searches for pair production of third-generation squarks in √s=13 TeV pp collisions
(2017)The European Physical Journal CSearches are presented for direct production of top or bottom squark pairs in proton–proton collisions at the CERN LHC. Two searches, based on complementary techniques, are performed in all-jet final states that are characterized by a significant imbalance in transverse momentum. An additional search requires the presence of a charged lepton isolated from other activity in the event. The data were collected in 2015 at a centre-of-mass ...Journal Article -
Characterisation of irradiated thin silicon sensors for the CMS phase II pixel upgrade
(2017)The European Physical Journal CThe high luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider, foreseen for 2026, necessitates the replacement of the CMS experiment’s silicon tracker. The innermost layer of the new pixel detector will be exposed to severe radiation, corresponding to a 1 MeV neutron equivalent fluence of up to Φeq=2×1016 cm−2, and an ionising dose of ≈5 MGy after an integrated luminosity of 3000 fb−1. Thin, planar silicon sensors are good candidates for this ...Journal Article -
Search for heavy resonances decaying into a vector boson and a Higgs boson in final states with charged leptons, neutrinos, and b quarks
(2017)Physics Letters BA search for heavy resonances decaying to a Higgs boson and a vector boson is presented. The analysis is performed using data samples collected in 2015 by the CMS experiment at the LHC in proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 2.2–2.5 fb−1. The search is performed in channels in which the vector boson decays into leptonic final states (Z→νν, W→ℓν, and Z→ℓℓ, with ℓ=e,μ), ...Journal Article -
Study of Jet Quenching with Z+jet Correlations in Pb-Pb and pp Collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV
(2017)Physical Review LettersThe production of jets in association with Z bosons, reconstructed via the μ+μ− and e+e− decay channels, is studied in pp and, for the first time, in Pb-Pb collisions. Both data samples were collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. The Pb-Pb collisions were analyzed in the 0%–30% centrality range. The back-to-back azimuthal alignment was studied in both pp and Pb-Pb collisions for ...Journal Article -
Search for Evidence of the Type-III Seesaw Mechanism in Multilepton Final States in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s=13 TeV
(2017)Physical Review LettersA search for a signal consistent with the type-III seesaw mechanism in events with three or more electrons or muons is presented. The data sample consists of proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016 and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. Selection criteria based on the number of leptons and the invariant mass of oppositely charged lepton pairs are used to distinguish the ...Journal Article -
Measurement of vector boson scattering and constraints on anomalous quartic couplings from events with four leptons and two jets in proton–proton collisions at √s=13 TeV
(2017)Physics Letters BA measurement of vector boson scattering and constraints on anomalous quartic gauge couplings from events with two Z bosons and two jets are presented. The analysis is based on a data sample of proton–proton collisions at collected with the CMS detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9. The search is performed in the fully leptonic final state , where or μ. The electroweak production of two Z bosons in association ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the jet mass in highly boosted tt¯ events from pp collisions at √s=8 TeV
(2017)The European Physical Journal CThe first measurement of the jet mass mjet of top quark jets produced in tt¯ events from pp collisions at s√=8TeV is reported for the jet with the largest transverse momentum pT in highly boosted hadronic top quark decays. The data sample, collected with the CMS detector, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7fb−1. The measurement is performed in the lepton+jets channel in which the products of the semileptonic decay t→bW with ...Journal Article -
Search for high-mass Zγ resonances in proton–proton collisions at √s = 8 and 13 TeV using jet substructure techniques
(2017)Physics Letters BA search for massive resonances decaying to a Z boson and a photon is performed in events with a hadronically decaying Z boson candidate, separately in light-quark and b quark decay modes, identified using jet substructure and advanced b tagging techniques. Results are based on samples of proton–proton collisions collected with the CMS detector at the LHC at center-of-mass energies of 8 and 3.0 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities ...Journal Article -
Multiplicity and rapidity dependence of strange hadron production in pp, pPb, and PbPb collisions at the LHC
(2017)Physics Letters BMeasurements of strange hadron (KS 0, Λ+Λ‾, and Ξ−+Ξ‾+) transverse momentum spectra in pp, pPb, and PbPb collisions are presented over a wide range of rapidity and event charged-particle multiplicity. The data were collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC in pp collisions at s=7TeV, pPb collisions at sNN=5.02TeV, and PbPb collisions at sNN=2.76TeV. The average transverse kinetic energy is found to increase with multiplicity, at a ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the mass difference between top quark and antiquark in pp collisions at √s = 8 TeV
(2017)Physics Letter BThe invariance of the standard model (SM) under the CPT transformation predicts equality of particle and antiparticle masses. This prediction is tested by measuring the mass difference between the top quark and antiquark (Δmt=mt−mt) that are produced in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8TeV, using events with a muon or an electron and at least four jets in the final state. The analysis is based on data corresponding to an ...Journal Article
