Abstract
Detailed tomographic study of the internal structure of subduction zones is needed for the purpose of developing a geodynamic model of the continent-ocean transition region, in particular, at the Kuril-Kamchatka and Aleutian island-arc junction. In this paper, we present results of the 3D reconstruction of P wave velocity distribution in the Earth's crust and upper mantle in the Kamchatka region. We have revealed a clear correlation of the velocity structure with the main tectonic elements of the region, regularities of the distribution of earthquake sources, and possible mechanisms of geodynamic processes occurring in the region.
