Abstract
Show more
The pharmaceutical industry has become the largest industrial sector in Switzerland and is by far the most productive of all sectors. The demand for its products is hardly subject to cyclical fluctuations and declining prices could so far be overcompensated by an increase in production volume. Employment in the sector has increased strongly and pharmaceutical products contribute significantly to the Swiss goods trade surplus. The size of the industry is however associated with a cluster risk, although at this stage, it appears tolerable. Show more
