Abstract
We are doomed to repair. This is hardly an astonishing insight in a world that ages with every passing moment. Capitalist modernity, however, with its emphasis on innovation, growth, and progress; its economic system based on consumption, overuse, and squander; and the ruthless exploitation of natural resources that this entails, has firmly engraved a throwaway mentality in our minds: Everything is replaceable.
