Moments of Discovery: Art and Science Exhibition

Abstract

At a time when technological change is proceeding apace and global crises are presenting enormous challenges, the communication of scientific knowledge is paramount. Visualisations – such as art – capture our attention, spark interest and enhance understanding of the relevance of plant sciences. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center, a network of more than 700 plant scientists, we invited our members to share a Moment of Discovery with us. The insights gleaned through plant science have enabled us to advance agriculture, protect our environment, cure diseases and create new knowledge about plants. Inherent to the scientific methods used are curiosity about nature, questioning, observing, reasoning and the sharing of knowledge. Through this collection of twelve illustrations, we now present a visual feast of the wide range of plant science discoveries.
