Searches for BSM physics in diphoton final state at CMS
(2016)PoS: Proceedings of ScienceMany physics scenarios beyond the standard model predict the existence of heavy resonances decaying to diphotons. This note presents searches for BSM physics performed on 3:3 fb-1 of proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment in 2015 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The interpretation of the search results focuses on spin-0 and spin-2 resonances in the mass range of 500 - 4500 GeV and with a relative width up to ...Conference Paper -
Finding a Balance between Accuracy and Effort For Modeling Biomineralization
(2016)Energy Procedia ~ European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2016, EGU Division Energy, Resources & the Environment (ERE)Microbially induced calcite precipitation (MICP) is a technology aiming at the mitigation of potential leakage from underground gas storage sites. A numerical model for MICP was previously developed and validated. The model complexity leads to high computation times, prohibiting at the moment the use of the model for designing field-scale MICP applications. This study investigates savings of the computational time by well-chosen model ...Conference Paper -
Effects of asperity distribution on fluid flow and induced seismicity during deep geothermal exploitation
(2016)Energy Procedia ~ European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2016, EGU Division Energy, Resources & the Environment (ERE)This work investigates the injection-induced seismic response of a heterogeneous fault plane, featuring low-permeability asperities embedded into a high-permeability damage zone. We simulate the pressure evolution with a hydrogeological simulator, accounting for the heterogeneous fault plane. Seismicity occurs then on the asperities, represented as unstable patches reactivating by means of the Mohr-Coulomb criterion. The hydrological and ...Conference Paper -
Z+jet production at NNLO
(2016)PoS: Proceedings of ScienceWe present our calculation of the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to Z+ jet production in hadronic collisions. Phenomenological results are presented which comprise various differential distributions for 8 TeV proton–proton collisions. A significant reduction of the scale uncertainties is observed throughout as we move from NLO to NNLO. We further discuss how this calculation can be used to describe the inclusive ...Conference Paper -
Diamond sensors for future high energy experiments
(2016)Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment ~ Proceedings of the 10th International “Hiroshima” Symposium on the Development and Application of Semiconductor Tracking DetectorsWith the planned upgrade of the LHC to High-Luminosity-LHC [1], the general purpose experiments ATLAS and CMS are planning to upgrade their innermost tracking layers with more radiation tolerant technologies. Chemical Vapor Deposition CVD diamond is one such technology. CVD diamond sensors are an established technology as beam condition monitors in the highest radiation areas of all LHC experiments. The RD42-collaboration at CERN is leading ...Conference Paper -
Recent Results from Beam Tests of 3D and Pad pCVD Diamond Detectors
(2016)38th International Conference on High Energy Physics, ICHEP 2016Results from prototypes of a detector using chemical vapor deposited (CVD) diamond with embedded resistive electrodes in the bulk forming a 3D diamond device are presented. A detector system consisting of 3D devices based on poly-crystalline CVD (pCVD) diamond was connected to a multi-channel readout and successfully tested in a 120 GeV/c proton beam at CERN proving for the first time the feasibility of the 3D detector concept in pCVD for ...Conference Paper -
Energy Management Optimization for a Hybrid Tracked Vehicle Using the Radau Pseudospectral Method
(2016)Energy Procedia ~ CUE 2015 - Applied Energy Symposium and Summit 2015: Low Carbon Cities and Urban Energy SystemsThis study explored the feasibility of using the Radau pseudospectral method (RPM) to optimize the energy management strategy for a hybrid tracked vehicle. The engine–generator set and the battery pack of the serial hybrid tracked vehicle were modeled and validated through the bench test. A DC-DC converter was equipped between the battery pack and the DC bus in this hybrid powertrain, which increased the flexibility of energy distribution ...Conference Paper -
Dependence of Crater Formation in Dry EDM on Electrical Breakdown Mechanism
(2016)Procedia CIRP ~ 18th CIRP Conference on Electro Physical and Chemical Machining (ISEM XVIII)The research effort in dry electrical discharge machining (DEDM) has increased during the last years. The process has advantages in comparison with EDM in oil-based dielectric media, such as low tool electrode wear, thin recast layers on the work piece surface and much more environmentally friendly conditions. However, the plasma-material surface interactions involved in dry EDM are not properly explained yet. Therefore, a characterization ...Conference Paper -
On the optimal control problem for a class of monotone bilinear systems
(2016)Proceedings of the 22nd International Symposium on Mathematical Theory of Networks and SystemsWe consider a class of positive systems in which the control signal enters bilinearly with the state. Such dynamics arise naturally, for example, from modeling the evolutionary dynamics of HIV in the presence of drug therapy. For this class of system, we formulate an infinite horizon optimal control problem and show that the optimal control signal is constant over time. We further extend our results to the case of uncertain dynamics and ...Conference Paper -
