High-Fidelity Device for Online Recording of Foot-Stretcher Forces During Rowing
(2010)Procedia Engineering ~ The Engineering of sport 8Foot-stretcher forces have been identified as key variables determining rowing performance. The aim of this study was to develop an instrumented foot-stretcher. Under each forefoot, a six degrees of freedom sensor was mounted on an adjustable frame. Under each rearfoot, a one degree of freedom sensor was placed. Validation resulted in an accuracy of vertical forces of about 1% full scale. Sensor’s crosstalk was up to 11% of vertical load. ...Conference Paper -
Effect of prior cyclic damage removal on high temperature low cycle fatigue endurance
(2010)Procedia Engineering ~ Fatigue 2010In terms of fatigue life recovery, the beneficial effect of removing a surface layer from critical locations of components subject to high frequency elastic loading is well documented. Not so well known are the consequences of surface layer removal from parts previously subject to elasto-plastic low cycle fatigue (LCF) loading. The paper describes the results of a research project conducted to evaluate the effects of surface layer removal ...Conference Paper -
Hybrid low temperature wafer bonding and direct electrical interconnection of 3D
(2010)Procedia Engineering ~ Eurosensor XXIV ConferenceThe presented fabrication technology enables the direct integration of electrical interconnects during low temperature wafer bonding of 3D MEMS and wafer-level packaging. The fabrication process relies on wafer stacking by hydrophilic direct bonding of plasma activated Si/SiO2 surfaces and the simultaneous interconnection of two metallization layers by eutectic bonding of ultra-thin AuSn connects. This hybrid low temperature bonding and ...Conference Paper -
Electrical initialization to erase history in hysteretic carbon nanotube transistors for sensing applications
(2010)Procedia Engineering ~ Eurosensor XXIV ConferenceTypically, carbon nanotube field effect transistors (CNFETs) based sensors exhibit substantial gate hysteresis and therefore, prior to measurements, require electrical initialization to erase electrical history of their threshold voltage (Vth(t)). Particularly, for CNFET gas sensors, which respond with small Vth shifts to analyte concentration changes, electrical initialization is necessary for reliable sensor operation. Here, we propose ...Conference Paper -
Vertex Disjoint Paths for Dispatching in Railways
(2010)OpenAccess Series in Informatics (OASIcs) ~ 10th Workshop on Algorithmic Approaches for Transportation Modelling, Optimization, and Systems (ATMOS 2010)We study variants of the vertex disjoint paths problem in planar graphs where paths have to be selected from a given set of paths. We study the problem as a decision, maximization, and routing-in-rounds problem. Although all considered variants are NP-hard in planar graphs, restrictions on the location of the terminals, motivated by railway applications, lead to polynomially solvable cases for the decision and maximization versions of the ...Conference Paper -
