Measurement of the CP-violating phase ϕs in the Bs0→J/ψϕ(1020)→μ+μ− K+K− channel in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV
(2021)Physics Letters, Section B: Nuclear, Elementary Particle and High-Energy PhysicsThe CP -violating weak phase ϕs and the decay width difference ΔΓs between the light and heavy Bs0 mass eigenstates are measured with the CMS detector at the LHC in a sample of 48500 reconstructed Bs0→J/ψϕ(1020)→μ+μ−K+K− events. The measurement is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 96.4fb−1, collected in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV in 2017–2018. To extract the values of ϕs and ΔΓs, a time-dependent ...Journal Article -
Strategies and performance of the CMS silicon tracker alignment during LHC Run 2
(2022)Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated EquipmentThe strategies for and the performance of the CMS silicon tracking system alignment during the 2015-2018 data-taking period of the LHC are described. The alignment procedures during and after data taking are explained. Alignment scenarios are also derived for use in the simulation of the detector response. Systematic effects, related to intrinsic symmetries of the alignment task or to external constraints, are discussed and illustrated ...Journal Article -

Measurement of electroweak production of a W boson in association with two jets in proton–proton collisions at √s=13Te
(2020)The European Physical Journal CA measurement is presented of electroweak (EW) production of a W boson in association with two jets in proton–proton collisions at s√=13TeV. The data sample was recorded by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb−1. The measurement is performed for the ℓνjj final state (with ℓν indicating a lepton–neutrino pair, and j representing the quarks produced in the hard interaction) in a kinematic ...Journal Article -
Measurement of B-c(2S)(+) and B-c*(2S)(+) cross section ratios in proton-proton collisions at root s=13 TeV
(2020)Physical ReviewThe ratios of the B-c (2S)(+) to B-c(+), B-c(*)(2S)(+) to B-c(+), and Bc(2S)(+) to Bco2STHORNthorn production cross sections are measured in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV, using a data sample collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 143 fb(-1). The three measurements are made in the Bthornc meson phase space region defined by the transverse momentum p(T) > 15 GeV and absolute ...Journal Article -
Search for disappearing tracks in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV
(2020)Physics Letters BA search is presented for long-lived charged particles that decay within the volume of the silicon tracker of the CMS experiment. Such particles can produce events with an isolated track that is missing hits in the outermost layers of the silicon tracker, and is also associated with little energy deposited in the calorimeters and no hits in the muon detectors. The search for events with this “disappearing track” signature is performed in ...Journal Article -
Measurements of the W boson rapidity, helicity, double-differential cross sections, and charge asymmetry in pp collisions at √s =13 TeV
(2020)Physical Review DThe differential cross section and charge asymmetry for inclusive W boson production at s=13 TeV is measured for the two transverse polarization states as a function of the W boson absolute rapidity. The measurement uses events in which a W boson decays to a neutrino and either a muon or an electron. The data sample of proton-proton collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016 corresponds to an integrated luminosity of ...Journal Article -
Search for physics beyond the standard model in events with jets and two same-sign or at least three charged leptons in proton-proton collisions at √s=13TeV
(2020)The European Physical Journal CA data sample of events from proton-proton collisions with at least two jets, and two isolated same-sign or three or more charged leptons, is studied in a search for signatures of new physics phenomena. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 137fb−1 at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV, collected in 2016–2018 by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The search is performed using a total of 168 signal regions defined using several ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the Y(1S) pair production cross section and search for resonances decaying to Y(1S)μ+μ− in proton-proton collisions at √s=13TeV
(2020)Physics Letters BThe fiducial cross section for Y(1S) pair production in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in the region where both Y(1S) mesons have an absolute rapidity below 2.0 is measured to be 79±11(stat)±6(syst)±3(B) pb assuming the mesons are produced unpolarized. The last uncertainty corresponds to the uncertainty in the Y(1S) meson dimuon branching fraction. The measurement is performed in the final state with four ...Journal Article -
Evidence for Top Quark Production in Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions
(2020)Physical Review LettersUltrarelativistic heavy ion collisions recreate in the laboratory the thermodynamical conditions prevailing in the early universe up to 10−6 sec, thereby allowing the study of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), a state of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) matter with deconfined partons. The top quark, the heaviest elementary particle known, is accessible in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN LHC, and constitutes a novel probe of the QGP. Here, ...Journal Article
