Finite-Size Effects of Binary Mutual Diffusion Coefficients from Molecular Dynamics
(2018)Journal of Chemical Theory and ComputationMolecular dynamics simulations were performed for the prediction of the finite-size effects of Maxwell-Stefan diffusion coefficients of molecular mixtures and a wide variety of binary Lennard–Jones systems. A strong dependency of computed diffusivities on the system size was observed. Computed diffusivities were found to increase with the number of molecules. We propose a correction for the extrapolation of Maxwell–Stefan diffusion ...Journal Article -
Nitrogen-Based Fuels: A Power-to-Fuel-to-Power Analysis
(2016)Angewandte ChemieWhat are the fuels of the future? Seven representative carbon‐ and nitrogen‐based fuels are evaluated on an energy basis in a power‐to‐fuel‐to‐power analysis as possible future chemical hydrogen‐storage media. It is intriguing to consider that a nitrogen economy, where hydrogen obtained from water splitting is chemically stored on abundant nitrogen in the form of a nontoxic and safe nitrogen‐based alternative fuel, is energetically feasible.Journal Article -

Criteria for effective zero-deforestation commitments
(2019)Global Environmental ChangeZero-deforestation commitments are a type of voluntary sustainability initiative that companies adopt to signal their intention to reduce or eliminate deforestation associated with commodities that they produce, trade, and/or sell. Because each company defines its own zero-deforestation commitment goals and implementation mechanisms, commitment content varies widely. This creates challenges for the assessment of commitment implementation ...Journal Article -
The Restructuring of South American Soy and Beef Production and Trade Under Changing Environmental Regulations
(2017)World DevelopmentIn response to the extensive loss of forests caused by soy and cattle expansion in South America, several countries have increased their legal restrictions on deforestation, and stepped up their enforcement. In addition, in the Brazilian Amazon, new private agreements were initiated in 2006 and 2009 to limit the purchase of soy and cattle linked with deforestation. One concern is that such policies, because they are spatially heterogeneous ...Journal Article -
Reformulating the Split-Spectrum Method to Facilitate the Estimation and Compensation of the Ionospheric Phase in SAR Interferograms
(2018)Procedia Computer Science ~ CENTERIS 2018 - International Conference on ENTERprise Information Systems / ProjMAN 2018 - International Conference on Project MANagement / HCist 2018 - International Conference on Health and Social Care Information Systems and Technologies, CENTERIS/ProjMAN/HCist 2018Spatial and temporal variation of the free electron concentration in the ionosphere affects SAR interferograms, in particular at low radar frequencies. The split-spectrum method permits separating the ionospheric and the non-dispersive phase terms using spectral sub-band images. In this work a reformulation of the split-spectrum method facilitates the necessary processing steps. Reformulating the split-spectrum method permits determining ...Journal Article -
Saccadic eye movement performance as an indicator of driving ability in elderly drivers
(2015)Swiss Medical WeeklyOBJECTIVE: Regular checking of the fitness to drive of elderly car-license holders is required in some countries, and this will become increasingly important as more countries face aging populations. The present study investigated whether the analysis of saccadic eye movements could be used as a screening method for the assessment of driving ability. METHODS: Three different paradigms (prosaccades, antisaccades, and visuovisual interactive ...Journal Article -
Assessing a financial incentive for reducing length of stay of psychiatric inpatients: Implications for financing psychiatric services
(2014)Swiss Medical WeeklyQUESTIONS UNDER STUDY: Restricted government budgets are forcing countries to implement more efficient health measures. Unlike in somatic medicine, the process of evaluating payment systems in psychiatry in Switzerland is ongoing. A pilot approach in one psychiatric hospital, here called “new remuneration system (NRS)”, was introduced to better control length of stay (LOS) by combining a lump sum with degressive daily rates. This is a ...Journal Article
