Atomic-Scale Photonic Memristive and Nano-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Devices Enabled by Plasmonics
(2020)OSA Technical Digest ~ Frontiers in Optics 2020Plasmonics allows for an unprecedented miniaturization of optical elements. For instance, by combining plasmonics with memristive approaches atomic scale switches and photodetectors can be obtained, whereas combining plasmonics with MEMS allows realization of nano-opto-electro-mechanical switches.Conference Paper -
Integrated Plasmonic Terahertz Field Detector
(2020)OSA Technical Digest ~ Frontiers in Optics 2020We present a compact and silicon compatible THz field detector platform. An optimum nonlinear interaction of the infrared and THz modes in a plasmonic waveguide-cavity enables a broadband and highly efficient detection.Conference Paper -
Ultra-steep-slope transistor enabled by an atomic memristive switch
(2020)Proceedings of SPIE ~ Nanoengineering: Fabrication, Properties, Optics, Thin Films, and Devices XVIIAn ultra-compact 3D memristive atomic switch is co-integrated with a field-effect transistor (FET). The combined devices outperform similar state-of-the-art arrangements. The integrated transistor operates with an extremely sharp switching slope of below 3 mV/dec, low leakage below pA and a high current on/off ratio Ion/Ioff < 106. Moreover, our atomic switch features a < 10 ns switching and a < 300 mV operating voltage. Most importantly, ...Conference Paper -
Electro-optic interface for ultrasensitive intra-cavity electric field sensing
(2020)2020 45th International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Waves (IRMMW-THz)We demonstrate a fibre-coupled, fully monolithic electro-optic coherent interface on the silicon-photonics platform that senses terahertz electric fields with sub-cycle resolution by means of nonlinear coupling with photons at telecom frequencies. A strong confinement of the terahertz field to a cavity mode enables a coupling strength to sense fields as low as 20 V/m. We discuss the opportunities such platforms provide for sensing of ...Conference Paper -
Novel applications of plasmonics and photonics devices to sub-THz wireless
(2020)Proceedings of SPIE ~ Broadband Access Communication Technologies XIVWe recently demonstrated modulators based on plasmonic technology displaying a flat frequency response reaching 500 GHz, high linearity and power handling. We discuss their potential for extending microwave photonics (MWP) applications to the sub-THz range, demonstrating analog photonic links with bandwidth in excess of 100 GHz and the capability of direct mm-wave to optical conversion. © COPYRIGHT SPIE.Conference Paper -
Localization of Micro Unmanned Aerial Vehicles using Digital Audio Broadcast Signals
(2020)2020 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarConf20)Localizing micro unmanned aerial vehicles (MUAV) using passive radar systems makes it possible to counter the threat they pose to critical infrastructure. In this paper, we discuss an efficient signal processing chain for their localization and demonstrate the detection and localization of cooperative MUAVs using a five-element array and Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB) signals. The MUAVs were detected up to their maximum flight distance ...Conference Paper -
Deep Learning Based Digital Back Propagation with Polarization State Rotation & Phase Noise Invariance
(2020)OSA Technical Digest ~ Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2020A new deep learning training method for digital back propagation (DBP) is introduced. It is invariant to polarization state rotation and phase noise. Applying the method one gains more than 1 dB over standard DBP.Conference Paper -
Low-Power Data Center Transponders Enabled by Micrometer-scale Plasmonic Modulators
(2020)OSA Technical Digest ~ Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2020Plasmonic modulators allow for high-speed data modulation beyond 200GBd at the micrometer-scale and low driving voltages below 700mV. The compact footprint enables dense integration and makes plasmonic modulators a promising solution for next-generation optical interconnects. (C) 2020 The Author(s)Conference Paper -
